We had the good fortune of connecting with Aisling & Jenny and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aisling & Jenny, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The act of communally engaging on varied topics – Blockchain, Tantra, Futurism – and the delight one feels by discovering new worlds & horizons as part of a group – is an intangible and hard to quantify thing. This is precisely what we strive to create at Faura – we want to open up discovery to the community. The thought process was how can we enable that in a way that feels fun, educational & meaningful.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
It is never easy to launch and grow a business. We have learned some hard lessons as part of the journey – but we have also had an immense amount of fun. We are deeply passionate about the learning aspect of our sessions – the intellectual muscle that is flexed when someone dials in to discover something new and expand their horizons – is clear. The part that is harder to explain to the folks that have never joined a Faura Talk or Book Club or Chew the Fat session before is the sense of well-being & belonging that can come from participating in a shared learning and exploration experience.
The fact that these are online is many ways is an even greater enabler of this magic because we are already recognizing the world as we once knew it has changed. We do not have to be ‘in the flesh’ to feel & learn – we can tap into a far broader, eclectic and diverse world through the power of our screen. What we lose in physicality we make up for in the vastness of digital reach.
We are excited for the world to open back up – we love hosting in person events – but we don’t think virtual interactions are going to disappear entirely. We hope there is a blend of both!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We are both West-Siders and love our neighborhood: Venice. Our itinerary would definitely include; ice cream at Jeni’s, lunch at Gjusta, a cocktail at WabiSabi. Taking in the boardwalk is an experience in and of itself too. We would probably head up the coast and do a hike – before catching the sunset from the beach.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Our families and friends – they have been incredibly supportive in helping Faura get off the ground. We love and appreciate them enormously.
