We had the good fortune of connecting with Akio Evans and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Akio, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success of my brand starts with the story behind my brand and passionately sharing my gifts

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The inspiration behind my Akio’s Art Apparel comes from some of my childhood experiences that impacted me some type of way, be it from movies, tv shows, comic books, and many more day to day heroes that still remain today close to my heart that left an impression on my life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area I would take them to a few places that I consider gems based on the rich history of great people that walked the streets of this city, I would start off taking them around our old neighborhoods showing them how much has changed. Visit the great blacks and wax museum, and other exhibits open to the public, I’d take them to a few of the greats where they resided when they lived in Baltimore, artist such as Tupac Shakur, the Billie Holiday Way/Row, Frederick Douglass block seeing his three historical homes that he owned in fells point. While in the fells point area I’d stop by to visit my favorite black owned restaurant Water For Chocolate to get some of the sweet potato bread pudding, and a few of Chef Sean dishes, I’d have to make a stop to get some crab cakes from my favorite spot, then take them to an event curated by Baltimore artists to get a feel of the phenomenal creatives that reside in Baltimore.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a shout out to God and putting me in alignment with people like Felicia Pearson, Donnell Rawlings, and Kwame Patterson in my Artprenuer journey. Also my moms Glorious Taylor that gave me inspiration behind the Art Apparel Akio’s Glorious Heroes
