We had the good fortune of connecting with Albamarina Nahar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Albamarina, how do you think about risk?
Honestly, I’ve been taking risks since I came out the womb. Risks are the excitement and nerve racking moments to make the ultimate decision that you feel in your gut. It’s a higher power move. It’s listening to your higher self and shift into a wild butterfly. I look at it as getting into another dimension of unlocking your ultimate powers that have been there, but now need grooming and way more attention.

Taking risks have always been apart of my life. Its truly taken its real form by playing the most major importance in my life and in my career. In my life, taking a leap of faith and doing a gap year instead of going straight into a college was major. I went to a college prep charter school, where most of the students were first generation college attendees. Being a daughter of two immigrants who came to the US, to help further my education and opportunities began to be a burden to me because it wasn’t what I wanted. So the universe spoke and I got a full scholarship to my gap year program, Global Citizen year. I lived in Brasil for a year, with my Afro- Brasilian host mom and learned so much about myself. Accepting myself as a woman of color, learning how to truly love others, and what it means to put myself first. All things that are the backbone to feeling confident.

Then having a vision to move to NYC for acting school, because I indulged into more films and tv while living in Brasil and I started to get furious at the lack of representation of POC. So I took another risk to move to NYC and follow my gut feelings. My dreams. To now fast forward to 5 years in NYC and ready for a newer challenge to take my career to another level- make the big move to LA.

That was the ultimate risk I’ve taken because I spoke it to existence for so many years in NYC, that when it was time to get up and go- I was so ready! I am an ultimate planner and once I touched down everything blew up. In great ways and in shifting ways as well.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a multi-faceted creative. I do a lot and I’m standing in that always. I’m an actress, model, writer, painter, director, entrepreneur, and creator.

Thats a lot of different titles, that I am always like- ALRIGHT, which one am I right now ha!

What sets me apart from others is that anything that I create always results into a healing theme. I mean every single time! I started to notice the pattern not to long ago, when I screened my first short film ‘Phases of A Goddess’. The feedback I received was beautifully overwhelming and many people related to the story. That is one my proudest moments, for real. I tend to be a content hoarder and won’t share it with the world because I want it to be ‘perfect’. Since my move to LA, I made a pact with myself that I’d shift that belief and let go.

How I got to where I am today professionally, is by pushing through and showing up. I’ve put myself in rooms and environments to truly challenge myself and make real connections. It hasn’t been easy, because I felt less of because I didn’t go to a college or university for those natural networks in the business. But I didn’t let that idea cloud my path, because what is for me is already on its way. And I know it and respect the process. Nothing happens overnight. And hard work, smart work, authenticity, kindness, and love will guide you to the right places/ like minded beings.

The biggest challenge was knowing what I was choosing was for me. I didn’t get the support I wish I had from my parents and family so I had to hold my chin up and hold myself down. I had to create my own support systems and tribes that uplifted me and saw me with no judgement.

One of the lessons I’ve learned along the way is to ALWAYS- listen to your gut. You know the feeling, when your indecisive about a choice but deep down you know what it is that you want and need. No matter how crazy or how insane it sounds out loud (or in your head) just do it! Trust yourself and believe that it is already working in your favor. Besides life happens for you, not to you. YOU GOT THIS!

I want the world to know that I am always going to give my heart, great intention, and my best in anything that I create. Anything I do, I want people to feel in their soul and help make them a better light.

I recently launched my online store ‘ Seaofmarina.com’ a place for all that I create. We were originally founded in 2014 as a pop up shop selling Seaofmarina’s prints through out New York City. We established our online store in 2020. We are an Afro Latinx owned brand that was created because of the lack of support when bridging self love, healing, and mental health in the POC Community. Our purpose is to inspire and empower people of color with exploring their self love journey.

I’m constantly pushing more community healing in any of my creations. I want my imprint to impact the world for the greater frequency- all in the name of love and self discovery.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Yikes, I love cooking my own food. plus I’m vegan so I feel like people always giving me some good spots to eat and I just be disappointed. However one good recommendation I do love to share is ‘Earls on Crenshaw’ – its black owned and have bomb vegan options! I would take my best friend to my favorite beach; Manhattan Beach. Its the cleanest beach in LA to me and just super chill. (My vibes!)

I’d also take them to Leimert Park, I am always over there!! I love investing into the black community and Leimert always felt like home to me. Always good vibes, great conversations, and most importantly, black love!!!

You can catch me over there on the weekends, joining in on African Dance Class or buying my favorite incense.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to really dedicate this to my mentor from Summer Search, she really helped me see myself when I couldn’t see beyond where I was. I’d also like to dedicate this to my gap year program, Global Citizen Year- it literally saved me and got me out of a dark place I was in. I’d also like to dedicate this to my therapist, she has been the greatest bridge to my self love and discovery journey. Last but not least, every single beautiful soul that I’ve come across and have shared a sparking and loving moment- to reflect, appreciate, and stand in my power.
