We had the good fortune of connecting with Alec Kondush and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alec, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
I love making people happy! When music, a full house of ravers, and amazing vibes merge into an incredible experience. I love when clubbers are still talking about “that” party and can’t wait for the artist to come back. Moments like this are making me extremely happy and making me want to work even more.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
So my brand “Safra” is bringing deep house and electronic music to the Bay Area nightlife scene. We are working with many talented DJs and producers from all over the world in order to satisfy the needs of our customers. Basically bringing talented DJs and producers to the San Francisco clubs. I started to do my events in a small lounge in DTSF with 100ppl capacity and after a few years(included quarantine) I’m having shows for 300-600 ppl minimum twice a month and I’m really proud of it. I think that the perfect combination of the venue, DJ, and quality of sound makes people come to our events and enjoy the music. The most challenging part was probably quarantine. Our mission is to bring as many ppl together as we could in order to have a successful event, But corona had different plans for us and we were silent for almost a year. Luckily we had a chance to do parties with the extremely limited capacity at the hotel Via rooftop, Public Works club, and the Midway by following all the city safety rules and regulations.
I’ve learned a lot during the last few years and I’m sure there is way more to learn. The biggest lesson – for me is “do not ever tell people about your booking before you sign the contract”. Happened so many times with the incredible artists I wanted to bring and always something was happening. As a result – all the work I’ve done before was gone.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hmm, that’s an interesting one. Well, obviously I’d take them on a hike through the city of San Francisco where we could find many cool shops, cafes, and bars I think it’s the best way to show them around. Our must-seen stops are going to be: Ocean and Backer beach, walk through the Golden Gate Park, Cable car ride, Picnic at Dolores park, walk through Marina district, and sunset at the Marin headlands with the view of the city and GG bridge. My favorite food places: Cinderella bakery cafe(Russian food), Salt and Straw ice cream. and my favorite dinner spot – Chambers eat and drink.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my friends, who were always supporting me, my ideas, and my love for music. To my best friends Manu and Nile for the constant support, mentorship, and for the amazing parties we have done together.
