Meet Alejandro Amézquita | Guitarist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alejandro Amézquita and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alejandro, how do you think about risk?
Risk has been a defining element of my journey, both personally and professionally. Moving from Puerto Vallarta to Los Angeles at nineteen, with no roadmap and few connections, was a significant leap into the unknown. That transition wasn’t easy. It required resilience, faith in my abilities, and an unwavering belief in the dream I was pursuing.
In my career, taking risks has meant stepping out of my comfort zone and trusting myself to rise to the occasion. Whether it was arranging a live performance for Jimmy Kimmel Live! with only four days’ notice, or joining demanding tours like Don Toliver’s, every leap has brought growth and new opportunities.
Risk-taking isn’t about recklessness; it’s about preparation, adaptability, and embracing uncertainty as a chance to learn and evolve.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career encompasses a wide range of experiences that have shaped me as both a musician and a professional. What sets me apart is my versatility—not only as a guitarist but also as a playback engineer. I thrive in adapting to different roles and challenges, which has allowed me to collaborate with incredible artists like Don Toliver and Fantasia.
The path to where I am today has not been easy. Moving to Los Angeles at nineteen with no connections was a daunting leap of faith. It required persistence, resilience, and an openness to learn from every experience—good and bad. Along the way, I’ve learned that challenges are opportunities in disguise. Whether it was performing with short notice, enduring demanding tour schedules, or stepping into new roles, each challenge has been a chance to grow.
What I want the world to know about me is that my journey is fueled by passion and dedication. I’m not just about playing music—I’m about creating experiences that connect with people on a deeper level. Whether I’m on stage with a guitar or behind the scenes of a performance, my goal is always to deliver something memorable and impactful.
My brand and story are about perseverance, adaptability, and a relentless drive to push boundaries—both personally and artistically. I hope it inspires others to take risks and pursue their dreams, no matter how challenging the road may seem.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’d kick things off with lunch at Ceviche Stop—it’s one of my favorite spots for fresh ceviche. After that, we’d get our adrenaline pumping with some Go Kart racing. Throughout the week, we might catch a live show and explore some of the beautiful beaches along the coast.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate a huge shoutout to Barry Squire. Barry didn’t just teach me about the business; he opened doors that changed my life. After I graduated from Musicians Institute, he recommended me to artists, managers, and music directors, which led to my first major performances as a guitarist. His mentorship provided me with a foundation of confidence and opportunities for which I’m forever grateful.
