We had the good fortune of connecting with Aleks Victoria and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aleks, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Before I started my business, I knew that I didn’t want to work for someone else or have a job that felt very routine. I wanted to be my own boss and do something creative. Once I picked up a camera and started shooting, I realized how much I loved photographing people and moments in their lives and decided to start my own photography company and do it full time. It always feels fun and no two experiences, weddings, shoots, etc, are the same. I knew it would be a big risk starting my own company and taking the chance that people would want to work with me, but I’m so glad I did it and wouldn’t change a thing.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a photographer based in Miami who focuses on weddings, portrait work, and event photography. I think it’s so important to meet each client and really take the time to get to know them so I can capture their memories as best I can. Connecting with clients is essential. I’m based in Miami but have shot in other cities as well, and I’m excited about seeing where around the world my photography will take me. I was lucky enough to work with a wedding photographer, Alina, for years who helped teach me all about the photography industry and taught me how to take beautiful pictures. Thanks to her, I had an idea of how to open and run my business as smoothly as possible. I’ve learned that it’s so important to push myself and take risks because you never know what opportunities are around the corner just from doing something that might seem a little intimidating. From grad shoots, to headshots, to weddings, every moment is important to people and I’m so lucky that I get to capture these memories and milestones every day.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There’s so many great places in Miami I don’t even know where to start! My favorite place to drink and dance is Copper 29 in Coral Gables. It never fails at having the best music, great drinks, and best vibes. As far as places to eat, I love Thai food at Malakor, breakfast at B Bistro, poke bowls from Hawaiian Poke, and if you need a quick bite, I’d go for a wrap at Diced. To relax, you can’t go wrong sitting by the ocean any day, any time. You could also take a trip down to the Keys for a day or two and do a boat day, aka the best type of day. And on your way to the keys, I’d be sure to stop at Knaus Berry Farm in Homestead for the best sticky buns and fresh bread rolls. Miami has so much to do at any time, there’s no place like it.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this Shoutout to my parents and close friends who have always supported me from day one. Thank you for pushing me to open the business, follow my dreams, and continue to take risks to help my business grow. Also, I want to thank my mentor Alina for showing me how to run a photography business teaching me how to take beautiful pictures. Thank you all, I’m beyond grateful!
