Meet Alessia Mosca | Cinephile & Illustrator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alessia Mosca and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alessia, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
I believe the most difficult and important decision I’ve made , is the choice to follow my dreams, follow my deepest passions and being prepared for whatever outcome it may bring. In life, you need to step out of your comfort zone , leave the job and city where you grew up to truly understand what it feels like to take risks.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I must specify that I am a self-taught artist. i have been so since a child. I am a very empathetic person, therefore I base my art on what I feel, on my past and current emotions that could come from anything I experience and situations that I live on a daily base. I transfer all of this into my illustrations, and sometimes I also add a pinch of erotism. Features that you can notice from my drawings are the female aspect.. This is not done by chance, I want to clarify that describing women in my illustrations is not because I am a feminist. I like to draw women because I believe they are great warriors in society, they have strength and determination, they have so much love inside, and we often underestimate them in so many ways . Also, I must add that it is so esthetically beautiful and inspiring. If I portrait myself a few years ago I would have never thought I would be here today talking to you. I am very happy with the small goals I managed to achieve so far. Initially, it has not been easy because, unfortunately, in the artistic world, it is very challenging to assert yourself and trying to get noticed. There are so many talented artists out there and this creates a legit competition among us. In my opinion, here in Los Angeles, there are many more opportunities than in other places because people have a more open and flexible mentality, more adaptable to my drawings. Also, I believe you get noticed more based on your qualities and skills rather than from your social background. Another huge challenge that I had to overcome, while expressing my emotions, just like other artists do, is to expose with transparency your individual feelings, discovering your own self, and sharing with others who you are. Once this interior phase is unlocked, you can see progress, and I started to have satisfaction.
The lessons i’ve learned along the way is not to listen to anyone or to others but to always follow your heart and your passions, make the impossible become possible. If you believe in your own passions and really put all your heart to it, anything can be possible. In this era, it is very hard to follow your goals, therefore I hope that every person who feels alone or struggles to find their place in this world has the courage to do so. I want everybody to know that life is one and you should live life like today is your last day on earth.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am from Ancona, in the Marche region of Italy. There are many places in my city that are close to my heart and if my best friend was visiting the area, I would definitely take him/her to see the sunset on the beach with a simple glass of wine, a picnic, chit chatting away.. I love simple things..Or even a long hike in Monte Conero. I now enjoy quieter places compared to when I was younger, I like less chaos with a beautiful view to admire instead. I would moreover love to show my best friend old town and the great architecture we have in my city, on a sunny day, even better! There are great restaurants to try as well, but I adore to cook homemade meals so I would rather take my best friend home and enjoy his/her company and engage in different conversations about the history of my city. Now, I am currently in Los Angeles They are zillion things to show around a friend here. However, I will not disclose those places at the moment, because I would want to surprise my best friend!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Who deserves credit and recognition in my story? Great question! First and for all, my parents, since they are two extremely hard workers. They have given me a good dose of determination leading by example. They educated me and helped me understand that if you work hard in life, you can conquer pretty much anything you desire. I have learnt that when you want something, you can only rely on yourself.
There are an infinity number of directors that inspire me and that I could say I love them all, but my two absolute favorite directors are Quentin Tarantino and Steven Spielberg. They are the ones who have influenced me the most, sparked my passion and made me dream. It all began with my father being a great enthusiast and collector of Western movies, He introduced me to these type of movies and other great classics such as Rocky, Jackie Chan and Jean- Claude Van Damme.
I then, in my adult life, refined my taste and discovered every type of movie genres.
I wish to dedicate my shoutout to Quentin Tarantino. I admire so much his work and his genius in each of his films from the way the scenes or subjects are filmed, to the crazy dialogues. I participated in his events such as the first release of “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” in Rome in 2019, and also two years ago I went to his book tour “Cinema Speculation”. It was such a crazy event and I want to thank the journalist Jacqueline Coley, who was kind to me and made my experience even more beautiful. The passion for the work of Mr. Quentin, not only inspired me, but he gave me courage. I was lucky enough to tell him this in person at Justin Queso’s on Sunset Strip, Thank you Quentin!
