We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Kotsyk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex, how do you think about risk?
As actors and storytellers we risk every day exposing our hearts and souls to strangers in audition rooms and stages. You know audition its like going to an interview everyday. Also as a stand up comic once I am on stage telling my life stories it feels like standing naked in front of people, being judged, but in the end its all worth it, whether its a laugh or film that I was a part, it makes me feel good. I think only now, in the middle of pandemic we understand how important artists are and how much they bring in our lifes. I cant wait to hit the stage and expose my heart in front of strangers.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was born in small town of Chernivtsi, not Chernobyl, Chernivtsi!!! You know people left Chernivtsi and Chernobyl for different reasons, one is because of Nuclear reactor and the other is because nuclear way of life, just kidding its a great town and my family and lots of my friends live there, I dont know how they live there but still…they are heroes to me…just kidding, sorry. Chernivtsi is a place where I grew up so its a part of my stand up routine. I try to promote it every time I go on stage. Really great town and people! Very lovely place! It used to be called Little Paris. I like to talk about where am from, I was born in former Soviet Union and now living between US and Canada, its very different perspective and societies. English was a huge challenge for me in the beginning. I was shy, you know about knowledge and pronunciation, at one point I was taking accent classes everyday to get rid of my accent but then I realized that my accent makes me who I am so I truly cherish it now and I am proud of where am from.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Mmmm THE GROVE!!! wait wait, no no Griffith Park!!! Wait, no Getty!!! Yes Getty!!! That would be spot!! I just love it! Everything you find there! Triple A: Art, Architecture, Abundance! Every time I go there, I always sit at the top and take in views of LA and its busy highways! Also now its kind impossible but am sure soon it will be back, the place where comedy thrives Comedy Story on Sunset! I used to go there 2-3 times per week to watch or perform! The best of the best every night back to back! Omg I miss it so much, I am going to cry now. Okay lets just stay positive! The Grove!! There is this Brazilian joint at Framers Market where they make brazillian meet! OMG soooo good!!!! Have you tried it?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Chris Power and I worked on Bloodslinger together -dramedy western that is about to be released. And I havent seen anyone worked as hard as Chris was. He wrote it and directed it, and he was on set always first and left always last, sometimes I felt like he lived on set. Always engaged and solving problems. I have learned so much from him and his advice, always gracious with crew and cast! I am looking forward to see what else this man does in near future!
