We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Loprieno and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
This process is started after a life of passion for movies, I have always dreamt to do something valuable in this industry. I was sitting alone in a movie theatre waiting the movie to begin and in that moment where my spirituality meets my passion, I got the first sparkle, I asked myself why the people don’t watch short films everyday? In our times the life is running fast and neuroscience studies show that the level of attention span of the people dropped drastically.
I started to question myself what could be the role of short cinema in this context, and I started to search the right business model that could make sense with short films. In the last 15 years we have witnessed the explosion of the streaming platforms, this industry growth has been exponential and so was the growth of the companies who did well offering good user experience and products..
The Subscription based On-Demand platform dedicated to short cinema has been the best answer to that questions and so WeShort took the first breathe in December 2020 after 2 years of studies and researches.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I set up my company to improve somehow the film industry, I think there are a lot of opportunities out there and I just took one of them, the one that suits better to me. When you want to work in film industry generally you make a short film to begin. I thought, making a short film if it goes good I’ve just helped myself but if I make a platform that can be streaming thousands of short films I can help a lot more people who want to be successful in this industry and it can contribute to make their dream true not only mine. This would also give a contribution to improve the seven art towards a new era of entertainment creating a new economy into it. I think this is the thing that I’m most proud of. The platform can also help a lot of people who don’t have always time to watch movies to come close to what I love most, cinema. You know, cinema is life, culture, history and it makes disconnect from everyday problems, it helped me a lot in my life, I hope WeShort can do the same for many people out there. I think the fruition of movies should be democratic also in terms of time available and WeShort can give this, everything successful starts with giving, that’s why I did it. It hasn’t been easy at all but I have rounded myself of talented and passionate people who help me to make WeShort a product that can be sold at a “short price” only 2,99$ a month and making it deliver the best short cinema entertainment with an innovative user experience. I would like the world to know that I’m just a guy with a dream and a strong belief that of you are passionate enough and you really love what you do you will overcome every obstacle stands in front of you and learn from every mistake to improve everyday. I would say give up is not in my dictionary. Persistence is needed as well and it prizes you, I have come across some relevant people in Hollywood, starting from scratch, how did I do it? I put together my passion for cinema with the more recent passion for finance and technology. Investing your emotions and often your money, working hard, and improving your self management will bring you somewhere. Thank you and In Short We Trust!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them on the Hollywood hills to watch the view of L.A. for sure, it’s the place I have always been dreaming to visit. I would do a guided tour into the major studios and after go for a walk in Malibu beach, it would be fantastic. I don’t know many place names to drink in L.A. because I have never been there but I guess there are a lot to check out! When I was a kid my favorite soccer player was Alessandro Del Piero, I know he owns a restaurant in L.A. I guess i would go there with my best friend.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this my mom and dad for their love and my brother that believes in me and helps me in this venture. My uncle Damiano who always helped me financially to reach my goals and my best friend Michele for our lifelong brotherhood that always make me feel rich. I thank all the people who gave me the opportunity to do mistakes from which I have learnt a lot. I thank my team of WeShort for making everyday a terrific job and make this dream possible which I couldn’t do alone, thank you for believing in my vision you will always have all my respect. I thank my mentors and investors for helping me to make this dream become reality. I thank my dog Uma that loves me unconditionally and gives me a lot of joy. I have to dedicate this journey to all the masters of cinema that make me feel in love with their movies, in particular Quentin Tarantino.
