Meet Alex Tsagamilis | Film Editor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Tsagamilis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alex, what is the most important factor behind your success?
When it comes to success, four things come to mind: honesty, hard work, adaptability and patience. First off, honesty is key. You cannot get far away without it. Honesty towards your collaborators and self. Recognize your strengths and weaknesses. Then there’s hard work – I’m talking about putting in the hours and grinding it out, because success doesn’t just fall into one’s lap, one has to earn it. Moreover, in my experience, being able to roll with the punches is crucial. Things change all the time, and being able to adjust on the fly keeps one ahead of the game. Finally I d like to add patience, things take time and success usually comes from repeated failures, so buckle up and enjoy the ride.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Greek native, born in Germany and raised in Monte Carlo and Greece. Multilingual and well travelled I attended German, French, British, Greek and American schools. I graduated Valedictorian for my BA in Film & Television production from the American College of Greece and continued to pursue my MFA in Film Editing at the prestigious American Film Institute in Los Angeles. Straight after graduation I became an award winning film editor and focused my career as a feature film editor based in Los Angeles. I take pride in crafting narratives that resonate with audiences on a deep level and care to help shape films that are impactful, can endure the test of time and showcase humanity.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Los Angeles is a city with so much to offer, and there are countless spots to visit. A landmark place to visit is Griffith Observatory, where you can soak in stunning views of the city and explore fascinating exhibits about space and science. The iconic Hollywood sign is another must-see, whether you’re hiking in Griffith Park or finding a scenic spot to admire it from afar. When it comes to food, I can’t get enough of the diverse culinary scene in LA. From the taco trucks of East LA to the Mom and Pop cafes and cozy outdoor restaurants of Silver Lake and Venice Beach, there’s always something delicious to discover. And of course, no trip to LA would be complete without a visit to the beach. Whether you’re catching waves in Malibu, exploring the Venice Beach Boardwalk while soaking up the sun, or taking a stroll along the Santa Monica Pier, the beaches of LA are the perfect place to relax and unwind. Hollywood’s and West LA’s nightlife is rich and rooftops offer amazing views of the city and delicious cocktails. These are just a few spots and things to do in the city of Angels and there’s always something new to explore. A decade living here and I am still exploring new places and things to do!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my family, whose unwavering support and love have been my anchor through every challenge and triumph. Shoutout to my incredible wife, whose belief in me has never wavered and who has worked hard to see my dreams come true. Shoutout to my friends, who have stood by my side, cheered me on, and celebrated every milestone with me. Shoutout to my teachers, who have not only imparted knowledge but also inspired and encouraged me to pursue my goals. I am truly blessed to have such an incredible support system, and I couldn’t have made it this far without each and every one of you. Thank you.
