We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Hansen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexis, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
The decision to care about people but to not care about others opinions of myself.. owning a small business requires for you to put yourself out there in all aspects which can be vulnerable but sharing who you are and being confident in that brings so many positive opportunities and people.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is all about being different and feeling confident while doing it. Growing up with 3 sisters I quickly realized that everyone has the same stuff.. always having to share or having the same piece but in a different color. Which is why The Humming Honeybee makes one-for-one jewelry that you can feel powerful and unique when wearing. So you can know that every compliment you get is unique to you because the piece is unique to the eye. My success has not been linear, but I think the hardest challenge to overcome are insecurities of not being good enough or that people won’t like what you put out. The best thing about art and beauty is that everyone is so different and what you think is ugly could be stunning to someone else. I feel what sets me apart from other brands is that I actually care. I care about quality, longevity, and overall you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am very much a homebody, but I also like to spend my time outdoors, relaxing and sitting in the sun. Bacari has some great brunch options.. love their chickpea hash! Or Leo & Lily is also good! Could head to the Rafi lounge after to relax or for a sound bath. Or Runyon canyon for a hike! Cielo farms for some wine tasting! Or happy hour pizza and drinks at grandmaster records rooftop!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am very grateful to have such amazing friends and family, especially my sisters and mom. But overall my sister Kamryn Hansen has been an endless supporter/motivator and a big part of why I want to keep growing!
