We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Mabry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amber, as a parent, what have you done for your children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
As a mompreneur, I believe it is my role to influence my children and prepare them for life on their own.
One of the most important things I’ve done for my children (and will continue to do) that will make impact is giving them space to explore life on their own terms while planting seeds of creativity, inspiration and discipline.
Creativity + Discovery is the air I breathe.
I’ve been blessed to have the opportunity to grow up and become “a creative.” I graduated from college in 2009 and began my design business, A Payne‘s Designs in 2011 to provide consulting and design support to small businesses, nonprofit organizations and entrepreneurs.
Thankfully growing up my parents never shunned my snazzy artistic flair. They encouraged my art college experience and have always been my greatest support.
Now as a parent of 2 brillant, adorable babies Camden and Dream (ages 3 years old and 6 months) I feel it’s my obligation to do the same. I want to make space for my children to explore, experience and enjoy learning. I want them to be immersed in the beautiful life of book studies and entrepreneurship.
As adults it seems we tend to get wrapped up in “what’s next” and trying to find “balance” or “control” in life. 2020’s Covid-19 pandemic has taught us all one lesson… no one has control but God. With this thought I want to create empowered young people who understand the importance of planning but also the neccesity and freedom that comes from letting go… and going with the flow.
When I’m laid to rest, I want my children to say “She taught me to breathe. create. learn. love and thrive! She impacted my life and taught me to impact the lives of others with intention.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Hummm – great question! If only I got out more! haha As a Mompreneur with 2 littles I’m a bit limited within these pandemic days. However I did recently take a small road trip up the street to Cincinnati for my 35th birthday so I’ll share that!
Take a sweet drive to Cincinnati
Stay at the Lytle Park Hotel – It’s super cute, has a cocktail bar and rooftop restaurant / bar)
Visit Cincinnati Zoo – There’s nothing like fresh air, a brisk walk and gratitude for all of God’s creations
Visit the Cincinnati Art Museum – Explore art!
Visit the Newport Aquarium – Get in touch with waterlife!
Find Bonbonerie bakery and have a sweet treat – My friend, Martina Johnson who used to be a Cincinnati local directed me here while I was in town
Visit Pappadeaux Seafood for dinner – You will be glad you did! Everything is so good!
Lay in your hotel bed 2 extra hours in the morning and get breakfast in bed!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to shout out “my tribe” which consists of my immediate family, close friends, colleagues, business partners and clients. Special mentions to my parents Jeffrey and Jacqueline Payne (Columbus, Ohio) THANKS for your role in making me who I am today.
