Meet Alexis Vazquez | Artist, Professional Dancer, Actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Vazquez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, what role has risk played in your life or career?
The biggest risk in my life as of today has been moving from New York to Los Angeles to further my career as a professional dancer. Before moving to LA, for 27 years, all I knew was my home town so the risk turned out to be the unknown. Not having anything figured out, yet allowing my instincts to guide me to where I am today, a working professional dancer. As far as what role it plays, the fact that I took a risk at the unknown, the unknown allowing me to be fearless in other aspects of my career, by evolving and trusting the journey which has now led me into acting, a risk I would’ve never taken had I not believed in the magic in risk taking.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am most proud and excited of my continuous growth, as an artist and man in this journey. Extremely proud of fulfilling some of my biggest dreams which include touring the world with various musical artists, appearing in a list of prime-time series and TV networks and most recently, starring in my first feature film. All of this by staying laser focused and dedicated to my dreams. But none of this has come easy, there’s an enormous amount of training and self-development that goes on in an artist’s career. From dance classes to acting classes to vocal classes to shadowing and assisting creative directors. Having a vision and clear understanding of what my mission and purpose has always been, an artist. Lessons I’ve learned along the way are to trust my instincts and not try to control situations or scenarios. We work in an industry where everything is out of our control, and go after everything. Which is why, it’s important that my legacy represents my truth and that with hard work and perseverance, you can overcome any challenges and use your vulnerability as power, when most people see it as a weakness. Because there’e could be 100 people in a room, but only 1 Alexis Vazquez.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to The Grove, for a bite. Then, I would take them to one of my favorite places in LA, The Observatory because it’s the easiest to get to without hiking, but also hiking every morning. I would also take them my favorite Puerto Rican Restaurant, Mofongos, in North Hollywood. Take them for a drink in West Hollywood. A walk by the walk of fame and a short car ride to the Santa Monica pier.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It is true that it takes a village, without my mentors, I would still be here, but my growth wouldn’t be matched. Which is why, I like to highlight Motivating Excellence, a mentorship program that allowed me to see my potential by setting a foundation towards my success. My family for their support and my 6th grade dance teacher, Kathleen Issac. As far as books, for my personal growth, “You Can Heal Your Life” by Louise Hay, one of my favorite books.
