We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexus Mozell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexus, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
One of the things I have always been passionate about is education. When I became a mother that fire reignited and the thought came to me to start my children’s brand. I wanted to create a brand dedicated to creating mindful products for littles and providing mindful resources for parents. Being that I was a mother it was an easy process for me. I consider myself the average millennial mom, so I knew the products I had in mind other mothers would relate to. What also made my business unique is that I wanted to create products and a brand that grow as my son grows. Since my brand is Nurturing Amir, I am literally Nurturing Amir (my son) while helping other mothers nurture their littles.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am most proud and excited about one of my passions coming full circle. Before moving to Los Angeles, I was in school for teaching but, I learned early on it was not something I saw myself doing full-time. Fast Forward, two years later, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue the entertainment world. Once my son was born my love for education came back, but this time in a different way. However, I do see both of my passions intertwining soon! Launching my business was such a helpful tool during my postpartum stage. It kept me going some days. Starting, I was clueless about where to start. My “Affirmation For Littles” flashcard deck was the first mindful product I released. This idea came to mind when I created an affirmation book for my son when he was only three months old. When I think about lessons I have learned since launching my business there are many. I have learned that you have to keep going even when things don’t seem like they are going anywhere. You have to keep yourself motivated, family will not be your target customers ( so learn how to market), you have to be willing to invest in your business, CONSISTENCY is key, no matter how it looks right now your business can only go UP. AND always remember things take time, despite what people say nothing happens overnight. I want the world to know that my brand is a one-stop-shop for everything when it comes to mindful parenting. From our products created for your littles to resources for you, as a parent
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would first take them on a hike, I mean LA is known for views. Then we would probably head to the beach! Malibu is my favorite but of course I would take them to see the Santa Monica Pier and let them experience Venice. We all know Venice is an experience. I would also take them to some great food places that have views. Mastros in Malibu is definitely on the list. But, also to some LA staples such as IN & OUT and Dulan’s Soul Food is FAV. We also might walk Melrose, Rodeo and take them to the famous Sunset BLVD.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Honestly, I would have to say my son Marlon Amir Goggans. It is because of him I created by business and I am working hard everyday to make it successful.
