Meet Ali Rothschild | Co-Owner, Intrepid Tapes

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ali Rothschild and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ali, what do you attribute your success to?
There’s no faking passion and a true desire to help others. People can smell a scam a mile away – or a business that is there to just take your money and do the bare minimum. When we opened our self-tape studio 9 years ago, it was because I felt a unique calling to do this very niche but important service for the LA film industry. The passion of working with actors and performers is what fueled us to launch Intrepid Tapes in 2014, but the enduring commitment to make other actors’ work as good as it can be is what turned Intrepid into a success. Seeing our clients as family and making our studio feel like a community is the reason our business grew so fast – and is the reason we were able to open a second location in spring of 2022.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a writer, actor, comedian, mom and business owner. If this counts, I am most proud of how my personality and sense of humor affects those around me; I am funny and joyous and able spread that to others. I am very proud in how I see that manifest in my 2 year old boy who also bursts with comedic joy. The reason my business is successful is because people enjoy being around me and because I care about their success as much as my own. Being unselfish in a very egotistical business has kept my head level in Los Angeles and enriched my personal life – which is a hard balance to strike!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a foodie and I love views and sunsets: so I would start at Venice beach with drinks at Hotel Erwin for sunset. Then head to Felix for dinner and window shopping at Abbott Kinney. A great alternative in Malibu would be Moonshadows for dinner right over the water with the waves crashing below you – it’s probably still my favorite place in Los Angeles. The next day we would do a classic LA hike at Runyon or Griffith Park, see the Observatory and spend time in Los Feliz on Hillhurst or Vermont. Those neighborhoods are classic LA and show out of towners that you can spent time in one area without a car. The local food from Los Angeles’ vibrant immigrant populations are where the heart of LA truly is – Joy in Highland Park or Dan Sung Sa in Koreatown are my two favorites. Laughing with friends over dumplings and soju is what life is all about.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
