We had the good fortune of connecting with Alonzo Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alonzo, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Ownership. We live in an era of decentralized music and complete ownership of your content is possible, so why not?
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
HitScholars is comprised of independent artists, producers, and military veterans. We provide recording services, production, mix & mastering and music business consults to other independent artists. One of the things I’m most proud of when it comes to HitScholars is our passion for the music, it’s what drives us to continue to create the highest quality experience for our fans. That type of genuine, organic growth is one of the foundations of HitScholars. At times, relationships in this industry can seem very transactional, we pride ourselves on putting the relationship first. Is this person someone that I would invite over to my house and have a meal with? Someone I would bring around my family? That mindset has allowed our communication to be open and honest when it comes to the business and the creative process and I believe the growth and quality of our music is a testament to that. One of the ways we’ve gotten to where we are today is by listening to our fans, setting expectations and goals and putting in the work to achieve those goals on a consistent basis. Whether that be through education or action, we take steps each day to move the needle forward and continue to create the highest quality experience for our fans. One of the key things I’ve learned along the way is that can’t do it all by myself, or in one day. I’ve learned to take my time, to develop my goals and craft, then develop the team that I need that will enable me to be most effective for where I am and what we’re working to accomplish. Being honest with myself and those around me, has enabled me to assess the situation and provide the resources necessary in order to be as successful as possible. I want the world to know that HitScholars is built on values, ethics, morals and quality. That foundation is what everything else is built on at HitScholars we value our artists and their development on more than a creative level.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’re really homebodies. Most of us have families that require our attention so when we’re not focused on the music our time and energy goes into maintaining that balance between pursuing goals and a healthy relationship with our loved ones. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to thank not only my team but Chauncey Gardner and his team of professionals who have allowed us the opportunity to continue to grow and expand our brand.
