We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Higashi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Becoming a mother was my catalyst for major change. I had a lucrative corporate career and planned to continue on that path (even though it was draining and quite a toxic environment), mostly because it was the practical thing to do. But, the moment I saw my sweet girl I knew I couldn’t stay there/in that world any longer. The birth of my daughter inspired me to want more, do better, and to seek out my true self and path in this lifetime. It felt imperative to demonstrate to her what I hoped I could support her in doing in her life as well. I didn’t know how and/or what that would include for some time, so I stayed in my position and juggled as best as I could. It was all starting to become really overwhelming and through a friend’s suggestion, I opted to try a Reiki session to see if it could help me feel a little more balanced.

The moment I entered the room, I knew that I had found what I was meant to do. I had been drawn to spirituality, energy & metaphysics my whole life and was known for my intuitive ‘hits’ and feelings/guidance offered when requested by family and friends. But, much of that world felt a little scary… until Reiki.

I wish I could say that I had a specific process behind starting my own business, but it really has been more along the lines of being something I couldn’t not do. As I studied Reiki and practiced on family & friends, I became more and more passionate about the positive impact this work could make in the lives of my children, friends, family and community. I remained in my corporate position until an extended work trip would’ve taken me away from my still exclusively nursing little one. I left the company then, a little sooner than planned, and from there began building. Everything from a new website to clients to programs. Feeling things out as I went (which was terrifying, but I just couldn’t give up). I continued studying other modalities to enhance the services that I would offer and began teaching classes.

Still growing, learning and adjusting every day, the desire to be both available to my family and continuing to fulfill my own goals truly drives me.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am a Reiki Master/Teacher, Karuna Reiki® Master/Teacher, an EFT with the Source Technique Master Practitioner, a graduate of the IMPART Certification Program for Professional Healers, and have been practicing & teaching classes for 9 years.
As my family grew, so did my goals and dreams to share these beautiful healing modalities via my company, Higashi Healing. In addition to in-person and distance healing sessions, I offer group guided meditations & healing sessions, mindful movement classes for little ones, and a dance~fitness~Reiki hybrid. I also teach Reiki classes geared to make this type of energy work accessible, fun, and relatable. Current offerings include each level of non-traditional Usui Reiki, Karuna Reiki®, Holy Fire Karuna Reiki® and also: Parent & Me Reiki, Reiki for Kids, and Reiki for Practical Use.

I am so grateful to those who have trusted me on their journey and I’m proud to have been able to support so many in some way. There is a deep connection built between each recipient of the energy & student and it is such a joy to share. I firmly believe that if more of us can connect with unconditional love and experience true acceptance, we will make a huge impact on this world. This work affords me that opportunity each and every day.

It can be hard for me to “run the business” sometimes – a total self-doubt/weird guilt spin kicks in when requesting payment for sessions or classes. So, learning to value the time put in & appreciate even just the energy exchange that occurs with that has been really important for me.

It is my biggest wish that people feel safe, loved, lighter and lifted after any time spent with me/at Higashi Healing. In this crazy world, offering support and an opportunity for respite & rejuvenation is incredibly important to me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In a pre-pandemic world, this week would include a mix of play & escape! A kid-free day at Disneyland (grown-up rides!) to a quiet afternoon at a resort pool. It’d be amazing to squeeze in some hot yoga and for sure include an evening of wine & dancing. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
If not for my littles & extremely supportive husband, I would never have even attempted pursuing my own business. They inspire me each and every single day. If not for the amazing classes offered by Dr. Anne Reith at the Impart Wisdom & Wellness Center & Robin Duncan at The Miracle Center of California, I would never have felt safe enough to pursue studies in energy and healing. Anita Moorjani’s book, Dying to Be Me, was life altering and I cannot recommend it enough! I am also so blessed to know and work alongside incredibly talented women – April Lovett, Owner of Unfold Motherhood & Rhonda Mae Yco, my Social Media & Marketing guru.
