We had the good fortune of connecting with Ali Salomi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ali, what makes you happy? Why?
I enjoy this question because I believe that I have unlocked the key to happiness for myself. I have found that happiness comes from growth. Any area of my life that I am not happy about, it is because I am not growing in that area. However, what throws a conundrum to this equation, is that in order to grow, you need to have joy. Without joy, you will not be able to grow. One can even dive deeper into what growth actually is. I believe that growth is our perception of how life should be in the very moment of our life, and getting closer to that perception is growth.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have been doing business for 20 years now, I started at the age of 18. Along the way, I have had many failures in business and a couple of successes. What I learned early on was that in business, you only need one successful business to be known as a successful business owner. From this lesson, I knew that the odds were always in my favor as long as I never gave up. I started Red Label Enterprises when I was 22 years old, by this time, I had owned two successful businesses and a few unsuccessful businesses. Red Label Enterprises required a large initial investment and without the prior successful businesses, I wouldn’t have been able to start it. The company originally started with the help of my friends and family. Everyone who originally worked at Red Label Enterprises was either a family member (cousins) or a friend. This closeness taught me that business is about people and not just products or services. As the business grew, everyone that came into the business was treated as family. This is not just something that is said, it is something that we practice and execute daily. We want each person to grow and we mentor and teach leadership to each person. We believe that by developing leaders and practicing leadership techniques daily, we have encouraged problem solving skills that help us overcome challenges at every level. The journey to where we are now was not an easy journey; there were many challenges along the way. These challenges were overcome by relying on mentors and business partners. We have made “Growth” the forefront of everything we do, we chase growth and not profits. This is a belief that we have instilled in every single employee that comes through our doors. We treat each person as family, help them grow and make sure they become as passionate about goals and achievements as we are.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a best friend visiting from out of town, I would make sure their itinerary was filled first with great places to eat. I would make sure they eat at my favorite restaurant which is Il Pastaio and make sure they order the truffle pasta in the cheese wheel. I would make sure they grab a steak at Mastro’s. Take in the views and have dinner one night at 71 Above. We would get sushi at Sugarfish and we would have dinner one night at Raffi’s Place. Have a lunch at The Rooftop by JG and I would make sure we grab a dinner at Craigs and Catch LA. I would make sure my friend catches a NBA game at Staples Center, a LAFC soccer game, a Dodgers game and a football game at the new SoFi Stadium. I would make sure we check out a museum in downtown LA, spend a day scuba diving in Malibu, rent an ATV for a day, and rent a boat and check out a lake for a day. Top it off with a nice dinner at my house before my friend leaves.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I believe that success comes from your surroundings. Similar to how a plant can be a great seed, but without soil, water and sunlight it cannot grow. I believe in surrounding yourself with people that are helping you grow and at the same time you are helping them grow. I have an incredible wife and daughter who provide me with unlimited love and support at home. They provide me with so much happiness and I have a beautiful family because of them. In business, I have two great partners, John Reed and John Skelton. We provide each other with so much support, love and encouragement. We believe that there is no battle we cannot overcome because of our experience, work ethic and determination. Our partnership is a great partnership because our strengths compliment each other. We understand the value we each bring to the business and we make sure that value is always the driving force behind everything we do.
