We had the good fortune of connecting with Alice Chang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alice, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
How My Business Taught Me to Be a Better Mother

A little over a year ago, I naively had two babies simultaneously. The first was my actual son, Chance, and the second was the launch of my baby products brand, Famokids.

The journey of fighting mom guilt in work life balance started. To be honest, I had no idea what I was in for. The whole premise of my business was to advocate for moms. Moms shouldn’t sacrifice style when they have kids. Moms should take care of themselve. Because happy mom, happy baby. Somehow I could champion for other moms but couldn’t find the grace to do that in my own house.

Here I was, emphasizing to the world why it was so important to be mindful as a mother and make time for yourself, but I couldn’t take my own advice. It wasn’t until the holidays that I realized if I am who I say I am, then something has to give.

This is when everything changed.

Grace came in and self judgement left.

A year later, I am still deeply sleep deprived and often question if I’m doing things right, but now I no longer doubt if I can do this. Once I started making time for me, everything else fell into place. 5 minutes in the morning to myself literally changed the entire landscape of my motherhood journey and business strategy.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Brand Story

The inception of Famokids did not take place in an office, but in a mother’s belly. From that first moment of becoming pregnant, Famokids Founder, Alice, knew she needed to create something special for her baby and also change the way mother’s across the globe looked at foam play mats. With her many years in the baby product industry, she was familiar with the in’s & out’s of foam composition and what it took to produce a mat that was truly toxic-free & safe. Sure there were other mat options available, but they were obnoxiously brightly colored that no on-trend mom actually wanted in her beautiful home. Alice was determined to develop a foam play mat that met all of her high industry standards, was stylish for all modern mamas and most importantly, was safe for their babies.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Love the art district. It’s such a cool place to enjoy food, art gallery, boutique shops.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shoutout to my family. Always providing great support to my entrepreneurship journey as well as my first time motherhood experience. Without them, it’s hard to go through those tough days and nights.
