Meet Alisa Bertram | Interior Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alisa Bertram and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alisa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
BEAM Design & Consulting began with a desire to design homes for how people actually live—not just how spaces photograph. I’ve always had a natural instinct for design; my parents trusted my creative eye from a young age, especially when it came to color and spatial decisions. During their remodels, they would ask for my input, and I found myself following the trades, learning how things were built and asking tons of questions.
I didn’t fully recognize this as a professional skill until my husband and I bought our first home. We were newly married, I was 26 years old, starting with very little, and I was intentional about designing each room slowly and thoughtfully. In our new-construction home, I naturally began sharing ideas with neighbors—inviting them in to see what I was working on and talking through what was coming next. Before long, people were asking me to help design their spaces or offer guidance.
That’s when I realized that not everyone experiences space the same way I do. I instinctively walk into a room thinking about flow, function, and how to make it better for everyday life. Starting my own business allowed me to honor that process—without rushing, compromising, or designing for trends alone. BEAM was created so I could combine elevated aesthetics with real-life practicality—designing spaces that support function, wellness, longevity, and the way people truly live.

What should our readers know about your business?
I create spaces that evoke an immediate sense of wonder and lasting emotional connection. My work is rooted in the belief that great design should be felt as much as it is seen by creating spaces that invite a quiet wow, where every piece earns its place and every moment feels considered.
What sets BEAM apart from others is at the core of my approach is a commitment to exceptional materials, enduring craftsmanship, and pieces chosen for longevity design that becomes more meaningful over time. I don’t give up — I reassess. If something is hard but aligned with my values and vision, I refine the approach and keep pushing forward. If it feels draining or misaligned, I pivot. Knowing when to persist and when to adjust has been key to BEAM’s growth and longevity.
Clients often remark on my unmistakable passion an energy that reveals itself in my attention to detail and my genuine joy for the process. Design doesn’t feel like work for me but a creative space where I share my sparkle.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were coming to town and I wanted to give them the best possible week in the greater Los Angeles area, I’d plan the perfect day starting in Malibu with a Lily’s cafe breakfast burrito at Zuma Beach, watching surfers and enjoying the California sun. From there, we’d head inland to the Four Seasons Westlake Village, spending the afternoon relaxing in the spa before ending the day with dinner at Basta in Agoura Hills.
Another day would start with a relaxing stroll around Westlake Village Lake, then grab coffee at Joi Café and head to Westlake Yoga Co. for yoga and a sound bath. In the afternoon, take a canyon drive down to Malibu for lunch at Nobu and some desert at Malibu Yogurt.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to thank all my clients, who have trusted me to create spaces that positively change how people live. Family is central to my values, and being able to design homes where people gather, feel calm after a long day, and create lasting memories is incredibly fulfilling. A kitchen that brings everyone together, a room that finally feels like home—that impact is what drives me. Happiness, for me, comes from connection—to people, to place, and to purpose—and that’s exactly what BEAM is built on.
