We had the good fortune of connecting with Allison Lieberman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Allison, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After having my son a little over 5 years ago, I struggled with postpartum anxiety, depression, and OCD. However, I had no idea what those were, and I’m a therapist. I could not find the appropriate treatment to help me manage the symptoms I was experiencing and started to do some research. Once I discovered Postpartum Support International, I knew I wanted to create a practice that could meet the needs of other new moms struggling with the same symptoms as me.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Rooted in Harmony Counseling is a group therapy practice that specializes in Perinatal Mental Health. We are all trained therapists in mental health struggles of parents starting with infertility and/or conception through the toddler years. We specialize in anxiety, birth trauma, OCD, couple’s therapy, and paternal mental health.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my favorite places to visit in LA is Malibu. Driving along PCH and seeing the coast is really one of the most magical pieces of living in southern California. We would likely go to Dukes in Malibu for some delicious fish and a pina colada. Followed by walking along the beach or taking in the views!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Postpartum Support International and Karen Kleinman’s book “Good Moms Have Scary Thoughts” truly saved my life and helped me cope with the intensity of my depression and anxiety after having a baby.
