Meet Allison Sabrie: Interdisciplinary Queer Creative & Friend To Bees

We had the good fortune of connecting with Allison Sabrie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Allison, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
Curiosity is what propels me forward daily. I do my best to approach each project and opportunity knowing I’ll learn something new, expand my capacity for artistic expression, and shift my potential awareness of what is possible. When tempted to give up, I try to ask questions and posture toward a playful and open embodiment. What haven’t I tried yet? Who can I connect with? How can I shift my energy?

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m an interdisciplinary creative, specializing in sweet digital content creation, dynamic image manipulation, and visual storytelling. My work is earth-centric and vividly human. In my iconography and illustration, I prioritize explorative and “imperfect” line work, allowing a sense of breath and aliveness in a pixel world. In my approach to all projects and collaborations, I focus on developing contemporary imagery that aligns with an expansive sense of connectivity to both the cultural and planetary consciousness.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I advocate for exploring the plant life and little pockets of nature throughout the city. Focusing on gently waving palm fronds in Echo Park and dynamic ocean sunsets at Leo Carillo. Some of my favorite sweet pockets of lushness can be found at the Hollywood Cemetery (ft. two beautiful swans gliding on the little lake and infinite rose bushes), in the Santa Monica Mountains (I recommend the Sandstone Peak hike), or at Descanso gardens (a bit of a true sanctuary, boasting dynamic succulent and tree life).

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my shoutout to sweet planet earth and the honeybees. As a digital creative, it’s tempting to detach from the infinite connection to our rooted organic home. In 2020, I paired my digital work with an immersive internship at a honeybee sanctuary, reconnecting with nature as my primary inspiration. Deeply invigorated and recharged by land work, I hope to honor the earth with my art more directly in my continued digital creation.
