We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyse Marie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alyse, how do you think about risk?
Risks are scary but they’re necessary. And if you never take a risk, you’ll be stuck in the same spot. It takes courage. If it were easy, it wouldn’t be a risk and everyone would be able to do it. In my own life, I’ve had to walk on the edge and put myself out there to take advantage of opportunities. If I had not seized the moment to talk to someone, send an email, make a phone call, or get past security (keep that on the hush), I’m sure my experiences would be less than they are. And some of those things, I did while I was nervous. While I was trying to figure out what to say or what to do. But I believed in myself and my dreams, even when I was afraid. So, whatever it is that you want to do, do it afraid. But do it with the strong belief that you know it’s possible.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am an artist. I’m an actress and producer. Alyse Marie Productions is in process to make a full launch this year and I could not be more excited. There are a few cool projects in the works and I cannot wait to share them. This is a part of what makes me unique, I think. I like to create my own work and stories to tell, while pursuing telling someone else’s story. It’s a love of the craft that follows me around that lights a fire under me and tells me to keep going.
I am most proud of pushing through when it gets hard. When the auditions are slow to come. When I’m not hearing back. When I don’t book the jobs. Those things are sometimes harder than stepping into the roles. And while I usually let those slide right off of me, I have trouble other days. To overcome, I look at my vision board and remember where I’m going. I speak life. Words have so much power. If you keep saying that your dreams will never come true, they won’t. But you keep believing and keep working, and keep speaking that it will come, it has no choice but to come true. Never give up. I certainly won’t be.
I love being creative. And that has led to entrepreneurship. Alongside my sister, we launched The Drip Apparel, a lounge line celebrating melanin worldwide. We launched in March 2021 and we are so thankful for the support. Our second drop is coming this summer. Creating a brand was far from easy, but with hard work and persistence, the line is here and can be found at apparelthedrip.com.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I only have a few spots to recommend but here’s what I’ve got:
King’s Fish House in Calabasas is great view with a suburban feel.
I love a cute boat ride along the coast. You could have the music up, great vibes, but still intimate at the same time! Plus the other sailors on the water are usually so friendly.
To just hang with friends, I think the beach is always a great option, especially on a not-so-hot day! Any beach is great but I particularly enjoy the Lagoon in Malibu.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this to my parents. Without them, there is no me, there is no dream, there is no belief that I could do anything. I thank them for pouring into me the very best of themselves. For the pep talks, the cry sessions, the laughs (oh, the laughs). Thank you for showing up. In every way, every time. I love you. I am so grateful for their love and support.
I also want to thank my siblings, Melyssa & Joseph. They are my day one’s for real. I would not be who I am without them going ahead of me, teaching with every move they made. Thank you for believing in me. It’s the mob ties.
To every mentor, teacher, friend, my reps, and family, I am forever grateful for all you’ve given. I could never repay how much you all mean to me and will lead with as much kindness as you all have shown me.
