Meet Alyssa Alvarenga | Professional Makeup Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyssa Alvarenga and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alyssa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
This is an amazing question! My thought process behind starting my own business was on going for as long as I can remember my first job was at City Walk at the store “Guess?” It was my favorite job ever! Unfortunately it got shut down due to COVID-19. After Covid19 I had multiple jobs, but ended up quitting within a matter of a month or two. I was so unhappy. I tried taking some classes at my local community college & that also wasn’t working. I had my son in November of 2022 so that meant I needed to be a stay at home mom & take care of my son. Although it’s a blessing being able to stay home with my son I knew I needed to make some moves & try to get some income in because I was struggling financially. I took an eyelash extension course in December of 2022 and that only showed me that doing eyelashes was not my thing! As the new year rolled around in 2024 I was brainstorming ideas of how to make some income without actually having to go to work. Because if I got a 9-5 that meant I wouldn’t have anyone to take care of my son. I started creating makeup content on TikTok & I absolutely loved it! It was a huge distraction for me. Since I can remember I’ve always had a love for makeup & anything beauty. Once I started creating content I saw myself doing it long term but that meant having to put in hours & hours & being a mom & trying to create content on your baby’s schedule is a little difficult. That’s when I decided “Hey, I’m good at doing makeup! Lots of my friends ask me to do their makeup, maybe I can turn this into my career!” & that’s when I knew that I wanted to become a professional makeup artist. I have such a love for makeup, it’s truly one of my passions. Even though I just started my business a couple of months ago, I can see this turning into something big! As long as I keep this dedication, I know I will make it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a makeup artist! I took a leap of faith earlier this year to opened my business. It definitely wasn’t easy, it took a lot of effort out of me to start taking clients. I was always my worst critic! I didn’t believe I was good enough but the people around me & the support I have really pushed me to just believe in myself. I’d say that just pushing myself is something I’m very proud of. I’m mostly excited to see where this goes! I have so many goals for my business that I cannot wait to execute! As mentioned earlier it definitely wasn’t easy for me to get to where I am today, I think it just takes a lot of support from the people around you & also getting rid of any self doubt. Some lessons I’ve learned is to just be patient. My skills will improve with time, I’ll be booked with time, creating content takes time. Everything with this business takes time but it’s important to remember to just have patience. I would love the world to know that this is truly my passion & I hope it shows through my creativity with all my clients.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I think the only person who deserves some credit in my story would be my son Ethan. I believe having him really pushed me to figure out what I want to do with my life. He’s motivated me to start this business!
