We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyzza Suarez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alyzza, why did you pursue a creative career?
At the age of 16, I began my first job at a local Dairy Queen. I learned how to make the perfect ice cream cone with a swirl on the top, blend together the perfect blizzard, and learned how to flip the cup before I served it to the customers. One of the most gratifying things I learned, was how to build and decorate the ice cream cakes. I was able to express my creativity and quickly learned how gratifying it is to create something that would bring joy and happiness to others. I fell in love with being able to see a vision and bring it to life but most importantly, I loved to make others feel happy and special. I decided to pursue my career in pastry arts at Le Cordon Bleu culinary school. After graduation, I began my entrepreneurship journey by making cakes from home for friends and family. I worked day in and day out while supporting a full time job in a Swarovski Crystal jewelry store. While taking a one week vacation to visit my sister in New York City, I unknowingly missed my flight back to Las Vegas. I made a phone call to my parents who had agreed to let me stay in New York to pursue my career as a Pastry Chef. I then hit the streets of New York City and began applying to as many jobs as possible. Luckily, I landed a job working at Thomas Keller’s Bouchon Bakery. Working for a high volume production bakery consisted of long hours and an early work schedule from 4am-2pm. That means, I was awake by 2am and on the train to work by 3am. It was one of best experiences of my life. I would start my morning by preparing the daily pastries such as filling eclairs and cream puffs, and garnishing tarts, and then learned how to make everyday fillings such as buttercream and pastry cream. Later, I moved to a night shift where I learned how to mix, shape, and bake croissant doughs, muffins, and cookies. After deciding it was time to relocate back to my home in Las Vegas, I gained the opportunity to transfer to Bouchon Bistro Las Vegas where I fell in love with the art of plating desserts. This was different than working in a bakery because of the fast paced environment of handling tickets and plating the desserts for service. Not only did I happen to fall in love with the restaurant industry, but I also met a man who later became my husband and father to my only son, Julian. After gaining additional experience in the bakery and working at the Wynn Hotel, I decided to leave my full time job and fully commit my time to running and building my own business. I officially licensed Home Sweets Bake Shop in April of 2019. As my small baking business has grown, we have been able to build a family and community all around us. We have been able to spread love, joy, and positivity through our baked goods by doing what we know best. I have seen the art of pastry change lives of those around us as they got more involved in baking and learning how to create desserts. I am forever grateful how the Art of Pastry has impacted my life and created a creative career for my team members and I. We look forward to continue serving you and spreading the love and positivity through our baked goods.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We’re a high volume production bakery. We pride ourselves in quality and consistency. What sets us apart is the experience and background we have in pastry arts and the creativity in our product.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Sightseeing in some of Las Vegas malls and the strip. Tasting menus at some of the best restaurants in Las Vegas. Have a few drinks at some of the bars. Ride go karts or go to a game arcade for fun. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank the support of my family, my husband, and my team members that continually support and build my dream. My older sisters have always been there at a young age pushing me to run my own business. My husband has supported my dream by allowing me to license my business and commit my time to building it. Without my team members believing in me, my vision would not be able to run and operate on its own. Special thanks to all my loyal customers for encouraging me to always keep going!
