We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Goodhue and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Juggling a blog with a full-time career and personal life is not always easy. There’s blurred working hours– my job is a typical 9-5 but blogging can take me into nights and weekends. For me, balance is fitting blogging in where it makes sense. Sometimes that’s just a couple hours after dinner or a Sunday afternoon. Staying home more this past year has allowed me more time to devote to my blog, while also maintaining my career and personal relationships. However, I’m not going to events and traveling so there is definitely some give and pull. For me, if you are passionate about something you will find a way to balance it with the rest of your life.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am the director of communications for a cosmetics brand. Getting into the beauty industry is not always easy but I worked hard, was open to opportunities and reached toward my goals. At my current job, I started as an assistant and worked my way to where I am now. I’m proud of the work I have accomplished and the hard work I have put in and how it has helped evolve the brands’ communications strategies.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I were to escort my bff on a week long Los Angeles excursion, I would definitely hit up the below spots:
– Griffith Observatory: Amazing views of Los Angeles and fabulous photo ops!
– Manhattan Beach: I used to live here and it’s still one of my favorite beach cities to visit! It’s low-key, great restaurants (the cacio e pepe at Love and Salt is delicious!) and the perfect spot to grab some sun.
– The Arts District in Downtown: So fun for people watching, good food, drinks… and ice cream at Salt & Straw!
– Claremont Village: Located several miles east of Los Angeles near Pomona is the Claremont community. The area feels likes a small town with boutiques, eateries, the Packing House and more. It’s a gem!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to give a shoutout to my husband Steve for being supportive. He often (sometimes unwillingly) steps into the role of photographer and assistant for my blog projects. I am always appreciative of his help… even if it means less time doing something he wants like fishing or playing video games. Thank you!
