We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Fuller and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amber, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Being creative makes me happy. But it also makes me sad. I think I have learned that in the pursuit of happiness you must understand and accept that in order to have happiness you must have sadness. Creativity is both to me. Creativity is everything
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m really not sure what sets me apart. I just love what I do. I create what I feel. Sometimes there is a deeper meaning and sometimes I just do things that I think are cool. The Donut Shop is my brand and I am most proud of continuing to stay true to the reason I began in the first place. Like many artist there are times where I feel unmotivated, I have recently gone months with picking up a paintbrush. I am still working on how to push through during those times. However, I feel like I always find my way back to creating because it is truly who I am. I want the world to know that my work, The Donut Shop is just about living life. I want to showcase creativity in all forms and mediums not just from me but other artists as well.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love museums and I’m an avid foodie so the first places we would hit up are The Broad, LACMA and maybe some smaller galleries in the Arts District in DTLA. I love the beach so maybe driving down the coast on PCH to get a little scenery. I love all types of food so everyday we could get a taste of variety. Monday we can do sushi at Noshi in K-town, Tuesday we can get some hot chicken at Howlin Ray’s. Then we could have the best homemade burger from Mama’s Chicken & Market on Wednesday. Thursday, you have to go to Tito’s Tacos and the rest of the week can be a toss up of mediterranean and Italian. And of course I would have to get some donuts from Sidecar or Voodoo.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my husband and family for supporting and encouraging me to keep going. My husband always encourages me to create and paint even when I don’t feel inspired. He always sends me messages to keep inspiring me to create.
