We had the good fortune of connecting with Andre Cotton Jr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andre, what principle do you value most?
What value or principle matters most to you? And why?
Self-Expansion/Elevation. I believe this principle should be viewed as a necessary aspect to finding a purpose within this life. Self-Expansion/Elevation is advancing the conscious mind through experiences whether they be of abstract, rational, or experimental reasoning. This value matters the most to me because it encourages growth which in turn creates change within the conscious mind. A self elevated person also challenges their peers. When seeking the element of change, an individual’s level of critical thinking and ability to express will begin to rise in result of their constant ambition for growth and understanding. I believe this value of life is an essential facet for finding your True Self as well as purpose.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am someone who typically envisions an idea of change and thinking for oneself . I am someone who focuses on the human experience and the natural elements of life to influence my art. Getting to where I am now has not been easy, however there has been fluid actions of simplicity to build upon. I have overcome the challenges through meditation, communication with experienced individuals, and replicated methods from those I aspire to be like. Trusting the process, loving myself first, and using the human experience as inspiration are lessons that have shaped my journey thus far. My brand and story are unique, correlated even, and I believe they will both evoke change within this society on a spiritual and creative level.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First things first, we’d find a unique thrift shop. In my opinion, vintage cloth is quite intriguing. Next we’d roll up on a “Mom & Pop”, hole-in-the-wall, restaurant. Knowing the food is made and served with love brings a great amount of energy to one’s Self. Next we’d find a view spot to digest and stimulate the mind with. A speaker and topic of conversation would accompany us as well. Once late afternoon/early evening begins, we’d cruise around the city, seeking murals and other street art to take pictures of. Come night time, we’d find a local bar or club to grab drinks, meet new people, and make new memories.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Mother and Creative Collective deserve credit. My mother is a mentor, inspiration, and motivator for all things possible within this life. She has taught me structure, love for the Self, and most importantly ambition for obtaining what I desire. Similarly, my creative counterparts in my collective Bawsekat are individuals who deserve credit. They’ve taught me to think outside the box, to challenge the norms of this society, and to put trust in the flow of the Universe.
