Meet Andrea Cabrera Jakucs | CEO, Psychotherapist, & Speaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Cabrera Jakucs and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrea, how do you think about risk?
I wouldn’t be where I am today if I didn’t take a risk. Life is all about risk-taking to get ahead and get better so do it. If you don’t take a risk, you may miss out on life or have regrets. Go to therapy, do online dating, apply for that job, ask for that raise…take a risk, Don’t live in fear. Celebrate failure.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have a private practice called Wellness with Andrea Jakucs & Associates located in Altadena, CA. I mainly provide individual psychotherapy via telehealth for adults dealing with stress, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and trauma. I do some in-person work such as a monthly mental health psychoeducational series called Mag-Usap Monday located at Search to Involve Pilipino Americans (SIPA) in Historic Fililipinotown Los Angeles. I also provide clinical supervision, business consultations, and speaking engagements about mental health and wellness. It was tough establishing my business and it is still tough to maintain and grow it. I got where I am today through hard work, research, reading a lot, trust in God, and my community of support. I overcame challenges with the help of my colleagues, my nanny for my baby, my cleaning lady, my family, my psychotherapist, and Jesus. I have learned that it’s okay to fail, I can’t give everything 100% all the time, and that it’s okay to ask for help. I want the world to know that I help people to BE WELL & STAY WELL. Healing is possible, it takes time, and it’s beautiful. Give yourself a gift of psychotherapy.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take her to Geoffrey’s in Malibu, El Portal in Pasadena, and Scardino’s in Torrance. I will take her to The Grove, Old Town Pasadena, Disneyland, Universal Studious, Manhattan Beach, and go snowboarding in Big Bear. We would also watch a sporting event like the Rams or the Lakers and perhaps go to a concert or a musical at the Pantages Theater.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate this to my grandma Anita or “lola” in Tagalog. She was an amazing person and a serial entrepreneur. She was born in poverty in the Philippines, didn’t finish college, and was a widow for a time in her life but she worked her butt off. She moved her family to the United States in the 80s. She worked as a seamstress and a caregiver. She sold jewelry and land. She later on bought and managed several residential facilities for the developmentally and mentally disabled. She bought and managed a school in the Philippines. She did it all and I am glad she was able to enjoy all the fruits of her labor before she passed so shout out to my amazing, brave, hardworking, and extremely generous lola. I wouldn’t be who I am today without her being my beautiful role model. Anything is possible. Praise the Lord, work hard, and dream.
