We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Krohn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrea, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
# Magazine Interview Answer

**Where are you from and how did your background and upbringing impact who you are today?**

Originally from Long Island, New York, I’ve moved over 20 times—just short of half of those being cross-country relocations. I’ve even designed three homes in three different states.

As far back as I can remember, I was always extremely organized. I wasn’t your typical kid with clothes scattered all over the floor and candy wrappers on the dressers—Everything had a place. I was incredibly proud of my perfectly curated Barbie collection. As I grew older, my love for fashion and home magazines flourished. I constantly dreamed about having a home of my own someday and envisioned exactly what it would look like. I think that’s one of the reasons I move so much…..

During high school, I remember getting paid for helping some of my mom’s friends who were studying to get a degree in interior design with their dioramas. I’m definitely aging myself here, but imagine creating all different types of rooms out of paper, fabric and boxes instead of on a computer! I never imagined that my natural habits and interests would eventually lead me to where I am today, and who knows, had it not been for The National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals (NAPO) I may not be where I am today.

Having my own business helping people clear and create their spaces brings me immense happiness. When people aren’t bogged down with clutter, they can see clearly and breathe easy—something I think we all strive to achieve.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
LA Move Consultants was started in 2012 with the model that care and compassion would be the driving force. We meet our clients with grace and understanding with a natural instinct to organize their belongings. What sets us apart is all the life experiences that myself and our team bring to every client we work with. Our clients joy at the end of the day is the greatest reward.

Being an entrepreneur is not without its challenges. As my business grows I have had to accept that I need to work on the business more as opposed to in the business. One of the steps I have taken is to look at hiring in areas outside my expertise. We tell our clients all the time that its ok to ask for help and what a great way to lead by example.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Since a favorite pastime is to walk along the strand in the south bay we would definitely do that. It’s so nice in the early mornings when the air is still a bit brisk and the marine layer may be thinning. You can see the morning moon over the ocean and it is simply magical. We may also take a sunset walk over the marina or perhaps even go out on the water. Sadly I used to love to hike temescal canyon, but haven’t done that since the tragic fires this past winter. Malibu Pier is a nice spot to have lunch over the water. On a clear day the views up on Mulholland are pretty amazing as well. Weather and time permitting, I may even suggest a trip to Joshua Tree. I haven’t been but am dying to go. ◡̈

Some of my favorite restaurants are Nicks in Manhattan Beach. They have the best butter cake I have ever tasted!! I also love Bacari PDR. They make the most delicious drinks and the small plates are great for sharing. You can order a lot of different tapas and still have room for dessert! Plus the staff is super friendly and you never feel rushed.

If we are feeling like we need a taste of some culture we will visit the Broad museum or LACMA. I also love the butterfly garden at the museum of natural history.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are too many to list. First and foremost joining the association I mentioned before, NAPO (The National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals) was the turning point in my life. Imagine I was just seperated from my husband that I met at 18 yrs old and needed to figure out who I was and what I was going to do with my life. My kids were a little older and I had more time. I had already been helping friends and family declutter and move, but I needed to make money! Was that even possible?? I was looking online to see if people were making money organizing. After searching for a bit I found out the NAPO’s Conference was going to be in LA in 6 months time. I signed up and couldn’t wait. When it finally came time to attend, I walked in to the convention hotel to listen to “The Minimalists” deliver a keynote speech and started to cry. I couldn’t believe that I was in a room surrounded by 500+ women (and a few men) that were organizing geeks just like me. From that day on there was no turning back.
