We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrew Imanaka and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrew, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My most said personal affirmation is “we get to do this”. It’s a constant reminder that being on stage, being in the studio or even just practicing at home and making music is a blessing and to never take it for granted.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a musician and it took me a long time to come to terms with the fact that it’s not a hobby for me but is in fact who I am. It’s not the easiest path but I find so much joy in making other peoples music and ideas come to life and it’s pretty awesome being trusted to be that conduit.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m from Seattle and the city has my heart. If I was taking some friends around for a week I’d start with coffee at All City Coffee in Georgetown, dinner at Musang in Beacon Hill for an amazing Filipino meal, a show at either Showbox Market or Neumos (which are a couple of my favorite places to catch a show), a nice glass of wine or two at Left Bank in Southpark and then just hit the coast anywhere for oysters. Eating is kind of my love language.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to big shout out to the book The Art of War. It has taught me to know myself which in turn has shown me how to approach all the obstacles and challenges of life with grace and a level head.
