Meet Andrew Lux | Music Producer/DJ

We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrew Lux and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrew, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Its not often you see someone who “makes it” that didn’t give up a lot or take a huge leap in their life. When I quit my career in the Navy to move to LA and pursue this crazy dream of being a music producer/DJ, I was not only excited but it also felt like I wouldn’t be fully content with myself until I did. It should’ve been a scary moment as I was just making rank, had great friends, and security financially. On the drive from the east coast to west I realized why the emotion of fear was instead excitement, I finally found something I 100% love and want to do for the rest of my life. When you figure out what this is taking a huge risk almost seems like an effortless decision. Find out what that thing is for you and go for it but be ready to fall in love with the struggle because its going to be a long tough ride, you just gotta keep moving forward and eventually it will come.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love creating music that has a feel good vibe or gets the energy jumping. Its always just been my personality getting people to have a great time and dance so its all I really know how to make. I’ve written a few sad songs but usually I just write them for myself, but who knows maybe one day ill release one! I’m still grinding but I honestly love it. Ive moved a numerous amount of times due to my navy career and every time I land in a new spot I start all over, meet new people, and work my way up again. Its kinda like a game for me, as I always find out the biggest venues or labels and give myself a timeline on when ill make those goals. There’s always challenges you face trying to pursue this crazy dream, but its the failures that I learn most from. I don’t even like calling them failures anymore because they’re important to have in your life. You cant grow unless you take risks and sometimes those risks come at big costs. You gotta get up, dust yourself off, think logically about what happened and what you can do to better yourself, then get back on the field cause the games still on and if you don’t hop in someone will.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First I would take them to Kopan Ramen & Sushi so we could have some amazing sushi and sip on saki while we catch up. Then through out the week we go into the nightlife and dance at Sound Nightclub, The Exchange, and Pattern bar to name a few. There’s plenty of beaches to enjoy the sun at but if you’re down for a surf I would head on over to Zumba beach and catch some waves. We’d hike to the Hollywood sign because its not only a classic adventure but a gorgeous view. And to end the week we’d have a pint at one of my favorite spots in Burbank called Story Tavern, which has the best German beer selection there is.

There’s almost too many to count, but shout out to the following for helping me get to where I am whom provided excellent guidance to help me move forward:

Ralph Howard for giving me my first of many opportunities to DJ and expand my skills playing live.

Matt Bang for providing me excellent knowledge in music and vocal production as well as keeping me sane through some difficult times.

Petey Clicks for showing me outstanding sound designing skills and giving me confidence in myself when I had none.

Adam Glassco for helping me understand the history behind dance music and that this path is a marathon not a race.

And most importantly my parents. I know its scary and kinda hilarious for a parent to hear their kid wants to be a DJ, but you supported me from day 1 and I’ll never forget that.
