We had the good fortune of connecting with Andreya Simone and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andreya, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I’ve always taken risks whether it be bending the rules, making choices, fashion or my business. Taking a risk is really about having FAITH. Faith that God will carry you as you move blindly throughout the world. When I decided to get my salon suite I used my last $740 for the deposit and barely any clients. I knew that if I applied myself God would handle the rest. It just took a bit of faith to get started.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed esthetician with a new salon located in Glendale, Ca. I specialize in sugaring and permanent makeup. Sugaring is an ancient Egyptian method of hair removal that contains only sugar, water and lemon. I have created a safe space for women that specializes in self love. I embrace larger bodies because most larger people do not get the same type of treatment in the beauty industry as others do. This world is not designed for us so I go above and beyond and let my clients know that this is a safe space and I reinforce and empower them to be their selves. I got to where I am by truly trusting the process. The unknown is terrifying but I kept pushing myself to keep going because this journey isn’t only about me. I’m trying to help other people feel better about who they are. That’s the reason I am here, to help others.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, as long as there’s drinks we will have fun! The first place we would have to go is The District on Crenshaw for brunch. Get some fried broccoli and a Dizzle. Then go to the beach because it’s always a vibe! We would have to make some mandatory food runs. Places I love to go are usually chill, play good music, and full of great energy.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout my support system! It’s too many people to list but these last two years have been hell and I truly wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you all! I appreciate every single bit of support you’ve poured into me!
