We had the good fortune of connecting with Angeli Pino and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angeli, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Someone told me once “ Your job can’t be your life; has to be part of your life”, and then I understood that life is all about balance.
When I was younger I thought I had to be training and working for my future 24/7 to be successful, and I didn’t allow myself to be a kid.
Now at 21 years old, I’m allowing myself to take breaks and go out with my friends, and enjoy life, because life and work have to complement each other not work against each other.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been dancing since I was eight years old, competing and traveling since I was ten. I remember baby Angeli getting 3 hours before her class to watch all the other classes and learn every single dance.
I’m so proud of her because she’s in New York City pursuing her dreams, trying to open the door for future Panamanian dancers.
Hasn’t been easy at all, has been the most difficult decision I have ever made. I have cried, laughed, and danced so many times.
But the most beautiful thing about being away from home is that I have found my second home, and I have a family here.
I would love for all the girls with the same dream to look at me and say “If she could I also can”.
ALWAYS remember,
After the storm comes the rainbow.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you are coming to New York, feel free to take my recommendation.
I have to say that my favorite neighborhood is Soho, the architecture is so beautiful and has the best nightclubs/bars in the city in my opinion.
If I had to take you to my favorite Italian restaurant would be Briciola. But if you want to eat a street-style burger, I would say 7th Street Burger is my favorite.
Last but not least my favorite cookie ever it’s the two-chip chocolate chip from Levain.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank my mom for having taken me to my first dance class because without her I wouldn’t be here telling my story. She has been in every single moment of my life, helping me and loving me without questioning anything.
To my brother, I want to thank him for always being there, for taking care of me, and also for having taken me to most of my dance classes. Thanks for being the best brother in this world.
Also, my stepdad has been the most loving and caring dad that I didn’t have. He has been so supportive and helpful in my life and also my career.
Last but not least I want to thank my dance teachers, without them I wouldn’t be the performer that I am today. I have learned so many things from them, not only how to dance but how to express myself anywhere.
Thank you!!
