Meet Angelique Myrick

Today we’re excited to be connecting with Angelique Myrick again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.
Angelique, always such a pleasure connecting with you and thank you for sharing your stories, insights and inspiring messages with our community. We’re looking forward to getting the download and what you have been up to since our last interview, but first can you briefly introduce yourself to folks who might have missed the prior conversation.
Hello, beautiful people!
I’m Angelique—born and raised in the Netherlands, where my love for beauty and self-care took root. In 2003, I packed my dreams (and probably way too many hair products) and made my grand entrance into the United States. Since then, Los Angeles has become my home, my inspiration, and the heart of my brand—Los Angelique. Catchy, right? Maybe even a little genius? No? Well, at least it rolls off the tongue!
My journey in the beauty industry began when I was just 15 years old, and let’s just say I’ve been making people look and feel fabulous for… well, let’s not dwell on the math! By the age of 22, I was the proud owner of a hair salon in the Netherlands—an experience that shaped my approach to beauty, business, and connection. If you’re trying to guess my age based on that timeline, don’t bother—it’s a mystery even to me!
One thing you should know about me? I’m about as down-to-earth as they come. Maybe it’s a Dutch thing or just who I am, but self-promotion has never been my forte. Moving to LA was a culture shift in that way—here, everyone knows how to shine in the spotlight. But what I love most about this city is its energy, its diversity, and the incredible people I’ve met along the way. LA is a place where everyone blends in while standing out, and that’s exactly why I thrive here. Consistency is like the secret sauce to success—without it, everything falls flat. Whether you’re building a business, hitting the gym, or perfecting your skincare routine, steady effort is what gets real results. Think of it like leveling up in a game—small daily wins stack up until you’re crushing it. Sure, motivation comes and goes, but showing up even when you don’t feel like it? That’s where the magic happens. The more you stick with it, the easier it gets, and before you know it, you’re the one everyone’s asking, “How do you do it?” Spoiler alert: You just kept going!
For the past 15 years, I’ve been running a board-certified home-based Hair Studio, offering not just expert haircuts and color transformations but also a space for genuine connection, laughter, and great conversations. Whether you’re looking for a fresh new style, a touch-up, or just an excuse to chat about life, you know where to find me!
Can’t wait to meet you!

Great, so let’s jump into an update on what you have been up to since we last spoke. What can you share with us?
Exciting News—A Dream in the Making!
A lot has changed since we last talked, and I couldn’t be more thrilled! My husband and I have been hard at work expanding our home. After some strategic negotiations (read: lots of convincing on my part), he finally agreed to build a brand-new room for my hair salon and some well-needed remodeling of our house. Now, I’m on the lookout for an amazing esthetician or nail technician who’s ready to take the leap and be their own boss.
Becoming my own boss was one of my best decisions ever. I thrive on the freedom it gives me—though I’ll admit, being told what to do has never been my strong suit. That said, I’m a great team player when it matters, and I truly value collaboration.
This new expansion isn’t just about renting out a space; it’s about creating something bigger—a one-stop beauty destination where clients can enjoy top-tier services all under one roof. It’s been a vision of mine for a long time, even back when I lived in the Netherlands. I’ve always dreamed of growing my salon into something more, and now the opportunity is finally here! No rush, but I’m eager to find the right person who shares my passion and drive.
Who am I looking for?
A licensed professional – You must have a valid California cosmetology or esthetician license.
An independent go-getter – Someone ready to run their own business and make their mark.
Experience & clientele – An established client base is a big plus.
Strong work ethic & passion – The beauty industry isn’t just a job; it’s an art, a craft, and a commitment.
Kindness is key! – I hold kindness in high regard. I strive to create a positive, welcoming environment, and I’d love to work alongside someone who values the same.
If this sounds like the opportunity you’ve been waiting for, let’s connect! I’d love to meet the right person who can bring their talents into this exciting new space. Let’s build something amazing together!

Life is often about tough choices – can you talk to us about your thought process, strategy or philosophy when it comes to making difficult choices or tradeoffs.
Moving from one country to another is never an easy choice. I had built a significant life in the Netherlands, and selling everything I had worked for to start over wasn’t a decision I took lightly. But sometimes, life leads you down unexpected paths.
My husband is from Texas, but his job brought us to Los Angeles, and that’s where we started anew. Rebuilding my life and creating a new community from scratch wasn’t easy—but what other choice did I have?
Shoutout LA. The name says it all. It’s an ode to this incredible city—a heartfelt love letter to Los Angeles.
For the past two decades, I’ve called this city home, building not just a life but a true sense of community. LA is a vibrant, fast-paced metropolis full of energy, culture, and creativity. But it’s also a place of challenges—traffic can be overwhelming, and navigating the city isn’t always easy. Still, nothing stops me from embracing everything it has to offer.
Recently, the devastation caused by the wildfires has been absolutely heart-wrenching. I know several people who lost their homes, their belongings—everything they had built. Unfortunately, We are used to wildfires, but none have been as catastrophic as the one this past January. The loss is immeasurable, and the grief lingers. Home is where the heart is, And it is hard to imagine not going home.
Yet, in the face of tragedy, the spirit of Angelenos shines brighter than ever. The resilience of this city is nothing short of inspiring. Communities have rallied together, organizing fundraisers, collecting donations, and providing support in every way possible. There is still so much work to be done—homes to be rebuilt, lives to be restored—but LA stands strong. Because home is not just a place, it’s the people, the connections, and the unwavering spirit that binds us together.
To all the Firefighters, including all the help from other States, Canada, and Mexico: Thank you for your incredible bravery and selflessness. Your courage in facing danger to protect others is truly inspiring, and we are deeply grateful for your dedication and sacrifice.
