We had the good fortune of connecting with Anna Oris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anna, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
People, sun, my daughter, architecture, movies, set, beauty, meditation, reading books, ocean, riding bike, salsa dancing.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
**Five Years of Perseverance: My Journey from Home to Hollywood**
This June marks five years since I moved from my home country to America. Over the years, I’ve shared many stories about the challenges I’ve faced and overcome. There have been numerous interviews where I discussed these experiences. Today, however, I want to delve into more specific details that may help my fellow actors change their paths and believe in themselves.
It’s common knowledge that many actors take on jobs as waiters, real estate agents, or other professions to pay their bills while waiting for their big break—a lead role in a TV show or a major film. I understand the reasoning behind this; they feel they can’t make enough money to live on by acting alone. However, by taking these jobs, you might be distancing yourself from your dream. Let me share my story to illustrate an alternative path.
Five years ago, I arrived in the USA with a work talent visa, which allowed me to work only as an actress and model. I had no connections, no friends, limited funds, and my English was far from perfect. I had just $6,000, my nine-year-old daughter, my talent, extensive experience from my home country, and my work visa. It was a daunting situation, to say the least. But this situation pushed me to seek out jobs in the entertainment industry every single day. I emailed talent agencies, networked relentlessly, and worked tirelessly to improve my English and perfect my American accent.
Three years into this journey, I found myself on the cover of “Living Brentwood” magazine, celebrated as a successful woman. This achievement is a testament to the power of persistence and self-belief.
What am I trying to convey? You can indeed make a living in the entertainment industry if you are willing to push yourself every day and believe in your abilities. Today, I continue to work solely as an actress and model, and I manage to cover all my bills and raise my daughter comfortably. My journey hasn’t been easy and still sometimes can be hard, but it has been incredibly rewarding. If I can do it, so can you. Stay focused, remain dedicated, and never lose sight of your dreams.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a lover of elegance and culture, I believe a perfect day with a friend in Los Angeles should be filled with sophistication, art, and scenic beauty. Here’s my ideal itinerary for a day that truly captures the essence of class and refinement in the city.
First, I would take my friend to the Getty Museum or the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. Both are iconic cultural landmarks that offer a rich tapestry of art and history. The Getty Museum, with its stunning architecture and expansive art collection, provides a serene environment perfect for appreciating masterpieces from various eras. The Academy Museum, on the other hand, celebrates the magic of cinema, offering a deep dive into the history and artistry of film. It’s a must-visit for any movie enthusiast.
After indulging in some cultural exploration, we’d head to a refined dining spot. Terrazza Lounge at the Casa Del Mar Hotel is an excellent choice. With its breathtaking ocean views, live jazz music every evening, exquisite cuisine, and luxurious interior, it offers a dining experience that’s both elegant and relaxing. Another fantastic option is Vibrato Grill Jazz, which combines superb food with a lively jazz ambiance, ensuring a memorable evening.
A visit to Los Angeles wouldn’t be complete without a stroll along the famous Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. This iconic street is lined with high-end boutiques and designer stores, making it a paradise for fashion lovers and those who appreciate the finer things in life. It’s a great place to window shop, enjoy the stylish atmosphere, and perhaps indulge in a little retail therapy.
One of my favorite places in California is Santa Barbara, and it’s definitely worth the trip. Known for its picturesque beaches, charming downtown area, and beautiful Spanish-style architecture, Santa Barbara offers a delightful blend of relaxation and sophistication. I’d make sure to bring my friend there to enjoy the coastal beauty and serene vibes.
If we still have time, we are going to visit the Hollywood Bowl would be ideal. This iconic venue is known for its exceptional acoustics and scenic outdoor setting. Whether it’s a classical concert, a jazz performance, or a popular music event, the Hollywood Bowl provides a magical experience that everyone should enjoy at least once.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Throughout my five-year journey, I’ve been fortunate to receive help from countless individuals during some incredibly challenging times. However, my deepest gratitude goes to my daughter, Amelia. She is, without a doubt, my biggest motivation. Amelia has transformed me in numerous ways. Thanks to her, I’ve become a better actress, a better person and friend, a better woman, and a better mother.
