We had the good fortune of connecting with Annie Casarez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Annie, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Out of all the endeavors in life, music and the artistic expression it represents brings me the most joy. After being hit by a car and living to tell the tale, (thank God) all I want to do for the rest of my life is share my music with the world.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My name is Annie, I am a singer-songwriter and my band is called “Saints of Frances.” My fellow bandmate Steve, has been a musician for over 35years and grew up in a talented, musical family. I learned how to sing in church and I took a few college courses in music. Our art is our outlet, we speak from our hearts and stay true to our convictions. I love Rhythm and Blues and want to honor that genre and give it the proper respect by doing a modern spin with Soul/Rock, with hints of Jazz while keeping the purity of that style in tact. I literally had to step out of my comfort zone, and still do, I constantly have to reject all fear and anxiety that would try to consume me. I had to dig down deep, those places are pretty dark but also necessary to come to terms with. I found that acceptance of who you are, and where you are helped me understand myself better. As a band, we have learned that it’s ok to focus on only one thing at a time, while accepting the reality that mistakes are necessary, and that they can help point you in the right direction. So, don’t give up on your dreams, “keep on keeping on.” Look out for our next single release in December 2021!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would treat them to a hot stone, deep tissue and aromatherapy massage at the Spa after a workout! The Baked Potato for a night of music or the Hollywood Bowl. I would take them to Malibu, they have great beaches and fun hiking trails! We love art so we would check out some exhibits, galleries, as well as museums, especially the Getty.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this Shoutout to my engineer, bandmate, and producer Steve Parker! Together we formed our band “Saints of Frances.”
