We had the good fortune of connecting with Anthony Circo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anthony, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is unavoidable and a part of life, I would not be where I am today without taking some calculated, but mostly uncalculated, risks. I feel that confidence, belief in your abilities, love of people/relationships and passion can help move through life and career risks successfully. These are skills that develop over time and differently for everyone.

As I have grown in my career, I’ve built up a toolkit of skills that I feel confident in. I have physically and emotionally felt my fear of failure and risk minimize and my passion increase. I’m always a student and there will always be and still are many areas in my career/industry that terrify me, but the more you do it the better equipped you become for the unknown.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

My career path has been full of left, diagonal and backwards turns. The shining light through all of it has been my passion for people and, to put it simply, making things. There have been several times that I have come to distinct crossroads and I’m sure there will be many more in the future.

Each of these crossroads were extremely difficult to navigate…unemployment, career change, fear of failure…this is another endless list but the key is commitment. Facing what seems like an impossible task and saying “yes, let’s do this”. Even if you fail, which I feel like I constantly do, as long as you are committed to learning, then the experience was worth it. Some of the biggest takeaways from my path thus far are the ability to be scrappy, how to maintain creativity/positivity when faced with brick wall after brick wall and how to be relentless in pursuit of my passions.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

I have lived in Los Angeles my entire life, I can’t see myself being anywhere else….living and working in LA has been a beautiful gift. I currently live just outside the city in La Habra Heights, it is far from the heart of LA but this is the perfect mix of work/life balance.

Los Angeles is so large, I feel like most visitors forget to take advantage of what lies away from Downtown/the West Side. Irvine, Laguna Niguel, Santa Barbara, Big Bear, Pasadena are all within arms reach out the city and should be at the top of the to do list when visiting.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

I attribute the majority of my success first to my beautiful and supportive wife, Robin. Robin has has helped lay the foundation for almost all of my “should I do it” moments which have led to finding the rosebuds of my life/career passions.

In terms of hard skills, I would not be here today without mentors…Tara Stephens, Kathy Lippincott, Gil Decuir, Jenn Vogtmann, Max Aruj, the list is too long to name. I’ve been extremely lucky in meeting some of the smartest and sharpest people in their industries, they have pushed me beyond where I thought I could go and each has left a personal mark on my career trajectory.
