We had the good fortune of connecting with Ariana Verhauz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ariana, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I think artistic and creative people have no choice but to pursue artistic and creative endeavors, It allows us to follow our highest joys, be fulfilled, and ultimately give back to the world in ways that only artists and creatives can. Not every creative person or artist needs to pursue their talents as a career, but for myself, starting my own business as a feng shui practitioner just checked so many boxes.
Feng shui is a great marriage of creativity, problem-solving, intuition, and evidence-based scientific principles. Every person’s home, situation, and life circumstances are entirely unique, requiring creative solutions to each puzzle. As a graduate of California State University, Northridge with my bachelors degree in psychology, I’m able to draw upon that foundation of understanding human behavior, neuroscience, and therapeutic techniques. Plus, I’m a huge people-person and love working with others one-on-one! Our environments are a direct reflection of what’s going on in our lives, so things can get emotional, but also very life-changing! Feng shui can be related to many other energy healing modalities including crystal healing, sound clearing and blessing, astrology, and divination – all of which I incorporate into my practice. I’m also a singer, bellydancer, and actress here in LA – I love an audience! I look forward to teaching classes on feng shui and other energy related practices in the near future.
Feng shui has also allowed me to combine several of my other artistic pursuits. I’m a photographer and love curating my collection of art prints – with my feng shui recommendations on most beneficial placement, of course! I also create handmade feng shui inspired home decor, also with my recommendations on intentional placement.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a certified Feng Shui Practitioner, artist, photographer, writer, and educator. The training I received was honored and accredited by the International Feng Shui Guild as a peer-reviewed “Red Ribbon Feng Shui School”, and I am a Professional Member of the International Feng Shui Guild. I offer home, business, and remote feng shui consultations. I also create feng shui inspired photography, art prints, and home decor with my feng shui recommendations and explanations on placement.
I’m super proud of my website that I created myself! Most of the photography featured is my own and I have a great blog that I enjoy writing articles for. I have a couple articles coming out in an online magazine in the next few months. I have a great Instagram feed where I share tips and knowledge on feng shui, crystals, numerology & sacred geometry, and all things energy. I am also proud of the diverse background of knowledge I’m able to pull from to create the most complete picture for my clients. It also keeps things exciting because there’s always more to learn, to add, to incorporate into my practice. I’m currently working on incorporating Chinese Astrology chart reading (called BaZi or Four Pillars of Destiny) and Chinese Face Reading (Physiognomy).
I think the biggest challenge for a lot of us to overcome is fear – fear of the unknown, fear of failure, or even fear of success. It’s definitely scary taking the leap of faith and betting on yourself as a small business owner. But energy work through feng shui and other energetic practices has taught me many things. This is an abundant universe and you can call upon whatever energies you need at any time. We all deserve to live the life we desire now. Feng shui helps you get really clear about what that desired life looks like.
I want everyone to know that the goal of feng shui is to support the health, happiness, and success of human beings in their environments. The honor of a feng shui practitioner is to help facilitate that outcome and make the world a little brighter, one person and one household at a time.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Born and raised in LA, I would have a lot of options to choose from! Most of my favorite things to do involve hiking, the beach, or adventuring. There are several spots in the Malibu and Topanga Canyon areas that I like to frequent. One of my favorite hikes is in the San Gabriel Mountains – but my friends will have to beware! Some of the hikes I enjoy the most would not be considered “beginner-friendly”!
I like to enjoy a lot of different types of foods, so we would probably enjoy some Thai food or Indian food. But I also really love pizza. And breakfast food – I love breakfast food. It’s probably my favorite meal of the day.
If my friend had never visited LA before, I’d probably take them to some more tourist-y spots like Venice beach, Santa Monica pier, and the Griffith Observatory. The planetarium shows there have always been a favorite of mine.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people who have impacted me and helped me make all the magical things in my life possible. Of course, my family – my wonderful parents and sister for their constant love and support. My amazing boyfriend who is the best partner to feng shui with, create with, adventure with, and do all of life with. My creative sister, Sierra, for shouting me out to do this interview! My best friend, Amanda, who introduced me to crystals and all kinds of magic. My friend, Lori, who introduced me to feng shui and my feng shui teacher, Karen Rauch Carter. I’m blessed to know and have crossed paths with all of you!
