We had the good fortune of connecting with Arthur Bolden III and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Arthur, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
It all started with Netflix lol. I actually watched the documentary, called “Salt Fat Acid Heat”. This kick-started everything, giving me the ignition to learn how to cook. Prior to this show, I couldn’t even cut an onion. But, the chef broke down those 4 aspects (salt, fat, acid, heat) so simple that I ran to the grocery store that same day. I cooked my very first meal, and it was amazing! I love the process of seeing all the ingredients come together, and breathe life into an awesome experience. This motivated me to study the art of cooking more, and that brought on the title of “Self-taught Chef”. I started posting YouTube videos and pictures of my food and cooking on social media. A lot of my followers were really loving my content. This eventually turned into direct messages asking me if I could cook for private events, birthdays, etc. At that point, Break Bread with Arthur was born.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a personal chef and actor here in Los Angeles. I love that I can use the talents God has blessed me with and share them with the world. Being a self-taught chef has been one of the biggest accomplishments that i’ve achieved in life. I never knew this gift was sitting inside of me, so to go from scratch teaching myself to cook has been awesome. The journey has been full of lessons which at times were challenging . I didn’t go to culinary school so I didn’t have an instructor to help me or classmates to lean on for guidance. However, I work very hard at my craft to make sure I give it my all . One lesson I’ve learned is to stay positive in all that you do. We all have our up and down days but keeping your energy up, you’ll be able to handle the trials much better. I love making people smile once they experience my food, booking Break Bread with Arthur it’ll be like no other experience you’ve had before. I’ll take you along a journey of freshly prepared food curated just for you. I’m very passionate and all in once i put my hands and mind on something.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Los Angeles is such a huge county with so much to do!
If we’re doing a week long trip it gives us time to do quite a bit.
We’ll have to reserve a full day at the beach! Malibu has some of the best beaches especially El Matador Beach
Runyon Canyon Park
Lakers/Dodgers game
Brunch – The Waffle, “The Butcher, The Baker, The Cappuccino Maker, ” Perch
Treats- Sidecar Doughnuts, Happy Days Cafe, Dear Bella Creamery
Lunch – Mulberry Pizzeria, Wokcano, Hoy’s Wok, Sweet Greens, Homestate,
Dinner- Salsa and Beer, Carnival Lebanese, El Coyote, Granville, Pho Saigon Pearl
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my parents Arthur & Velma Bolden. Growing up, I saw both of them cooking in the kitchen making meals for our family. They were the original chefs I watched.
