We had the good fortune of connecting with Astaar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Astaar, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued an artistic career because it’s what is most true and authentic to who I am as a person. I am naturally creative and love to create all forms of art, especially music. I’ve went the logical and safe career route and was burned out, unfulfilled, and uninspired. Once I began tapping into my creative energy I began to feel uplifted and inspired, which let me know that this was the path I was destined to take.

Please tell us more about your art. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
My art is my music. I create inspirational hip-hop and R&B music. I love experimenting with new sounds, going against the grain, and creating songs that evoke emotion and introspection. I’m excited to continue to release music and sharing my art with the world. I’m proud of myself for releasing my first EP, XOXO, Astaar this past May. I arrived on this path by following my heart and choosing to do what I love doing, despite whether it made sense or not. It hasn’t been an easy road by any means, but what is that’s worth having? I’ve overcome challenges by re-strategizing, asking for help, staying persistent, and believing in myself. I’ve learned that the people who are successful are the people who never gave up. Having grit and determination go a long way in achieving your goals. It’s never too late to do anything that your heart desires or to follow your dream. Being authentic and true to yourself will take you further than you can imagine.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First we’d go grab a bite to eat at my favorite Mexican restaurant, Toca Madera in Beverly Hills. The Cesar Salad is the best you’ll ever have in life! Then we’d hit up Venice beach to soak in some sun and see all the talented creatives who showcase and sell their art. It’s always a good time. You can meet and see some really interesting people on Venice Beach and there is never a dull moment. We’d also go to Mixx Recording Studio to lay down a few tracks, because creating music is such a vibe! Of course we’d hit up a few open mic nights during the week throughout LA to network with other Artist’s and creatives. For breakfast Cafe Vida is a must! They have the best breakfast sandwhich, pancakes, and chilaquiles. Last but not least, we’d have to go to Erewhon because why not?? It’s the best bougie grocery store and cafe in town, and I’m here for it!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
How to Make It in the Music Business by Ari Herstand provided me with a foundational knowledge that I needed to start my music career. I’ve also worked with audio engineers and producers, shout out Gabe that Guy and Charlie Brite, who have provided nuggets of wisdom and tips on being successful. Music Money Makeover also was a key factor in setting me up for success when it comes to the business side of the music industry. I’m grateful for any and everyone who has mentored, supported, and inspired me along the way. Without the support, I wouldn’t be able to do this.
