We had the good fortune of connecting with Atlenea Beard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Atlenea, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?

Besides becoming my own boss and generating revenue, my thought process behind starting my own business was and is to educate my clients on how to become successful business owners from the beginning, during and after the process.

I strive to educate my clients on filing the proper paperwork, protecting their brand, basic marketing, learning their customer base, contract and NDA agreements, and the importance of building a team even if it means hiring outside sources. I also encourage entrepreneurs to engage in refresher courses, and practice self-care on a regular basis.

I am most proud of assisting clients with birthing their businesses. Owning your own company is not an easy task and knowing that I provide some level of comfort throughout and after the process as a support system is priceless.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

Operating since 2011, Beard Admin Services™ is a minority woman-owned business that specialize in the following services:

·      Business Start-Up

·      Non-Profit Start-Up

·      Trademark Services

·      Contract Services

·      Registered Agent Services (State of IL)

·      Birth Your Business™ Entrepreneur Workshops

·      Proofreading & Editing for Self-Publish Authors.

I created a journal book Client Chronicles Journal Meets Entrepreneur (Entrepreneur’s Guide to Sanity) strictly for entrepreneurs. Lastly, I birthed Pretty Women Series™ Apparel one year ago. The apparel brand was created and designed to pay homage to the professional woman. Women can conquer any profession as well as their private lives and keep things “Pretty” even when they are ugly behind the scenes.

I am proud as well as grateful to have been invited to become a part of the radio-media field (for business and as a radio personality) for Hot Spot Radio™. It has allowed me to tap into a passion that I had no idea existed. It is a great feeling to be able to control some of the narratives and give back to the community.

I am where I am today business-wise due to working hard, staying consistent, completing refresher courses, staying organized and learning to practice self-care. It has not been an easy road and I wanted to tap out a few times, but my brands are my passion, and this is what I was destined to do. I overcame challenges by revisiting my “Why” (Why did I start my business?) on a regular basis, writing in my journal, meditation, my support system plus all the people I have and will help going forward.

The lessons I learned along the way are to remain humble at all times, everyone is not your customer, contracts are extremely important, protect your brand, keep practicing to perfect your craft and it is okay to take a break.

I want the world to know that I am passionate about educating people, giving back to the community, and helping others become successful. I am also outgoing, laid back, believe that laughter is the best medicine and family is everything. I want the world to know that my brands were birthed from the heart and that I want to leave a legacy for my grandchildren. My story is my story, nobody else’s even if it is similar and I encourage anyone to create their own story, their way and on their own terms.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

There are so many things to do in Chicago and I have a lot of favorites but food for sure is at the top of the list. We would visit quite a few places to eat, have drinks, have fun and hang out.

Food & Drinks: 5 Loaves Eatery, Ja’ Grill Hyde Park, Oooh We! Chef Sara’s Café, Majani, I Can’t Believe It’s Not Meat, Chicago’s Home of Chicken & Waffles, Flammin Restaurant, Sweetwater Tavern & Grill, Flat Top Grill, I|O Godfrey Hotel Rooftop, Cheddars, Pizza Capri, Ghiradelli Chocolate Company, VU Rooftop, Whiskey Business, The Gwen Chicago.

Movie Theaters: Harper Theater, IPIC Theaters, Studio Movie Grill.

Attractions: The Chicago Museum, Shedd Aquarium, Museum of Science & Industry, Navy Pier, Chicago River Architecture Tour, Chicago Premier Fireworks and Dinner Cruise on Lake Michigan, Observation Deck, Millennium Park, Buckingham Fountain.

Activities: Paint & Sip, Indoor Skydiving, Gangsters and Ghosts Tour.

This list is nowhere close to half of things to do in Chicago, there are so many more.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

I would like to shout out my late brother Pierre, he encouraged me daily to become an entrepreneur, believed in my passion and funded my first efforts to make it happen.

My life partner Carlos who is consistent in supporting, encouraging, assisting, and cheering me on with all endeavors I set out to accomplish.

My sister Erica who is not only a great client but my business bestie and an amazing ally.

Lastly, everyone who consistently supports my brands (even if it is a simple share), sends referrals, purchases products, allows me to encourage them and genuinely clap for me. I appreciate them all so much.
