We had the good fortune of connecting with Audrey Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Audrey, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I believe risk taking is imperative. Risk lead me from the start of my career in New York 10 years ago, even though I had never been before, to starting completely over and moving to Los Angeles last year. I noticed I thrive in it. Especially when I go at it alone. It really shows what you’re capable of and is a testament to what drives you to get to that next chapter, that next project which promotes your growth as a person and artist in more ways than you can imagine.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
So like I said before, I’m an Actor and a Painter so my world goes between the two but often times merges as well. I’ve been painting since I was a kid as a way to channel my anxiety and energy. My mom used to gift me things with skeletons on them or anything with a Mexican Folk Art theme. I was just fascinated and thought it was so beautiful so that’s how I got started painting my Dia de los Muertos inspired pieces.

I took a hiatus from painting for a number of years due to moving to New York where I attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute and from then, focused on acting and working my craft. Being a Method Actor certainly isn’t always fun and easy but of course, no job is perfect. However, it is the most rewarding. It’s given me the gift of self awareness and trusting myself. The thing about the two art forms I have chosen as my life’s purpose is they both require 100% truth from your very core which makes this crazy world we live in seem just a little bit more manageable.

It certainly hasn’t been easy though. After Covid hit, I moved back home and haven’t worked since. With this time away whether it is from the stage or set, I have written a screenplay and have worked on myself personally as well as my craft everyday. I think I was meant to take a step back and sort of rearrange myself and how I work. I believe it has made me a better person in the long wrong. So once I do return to work, I know it will all pay off. I can safely say I would want the world to know that and trust the timing of life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m still a little new to LA so I don’t know too too much but enough to show him a time. So we’d start by getting bagels from Yeastie Boys then head to a life drawing session at the Los Feliz Drawing center. Three hours of drawing gets tiring so I’d take him around the corner to Maru Coffee for a pick me up. Since we’re in that area, we’d do a little shopping at the Los Feliz Flea to see what kind of treasures we can find. Assuming that would take a couple of hours, we would need to put our feet up and replenish so next would be pre dinner cocktails at Holy Water in WeHo followed by dinner at Crossroads Kitchen. Hoping we still have energy, I’d suggest a movie at Cinespia but we may just fall asleep on the lawn.
Though I do love a good attraction but the little best kept secret spots are definitely more my speed and where I have met some really rad people.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family of course! They’ve been with me through it all. Every move, every failure, every win and all the crazy ideas that fly through my head, their unconditional love and support makes me want to be better with everyday. I’d also like to shoutout my Burning Man tribe. They taught me true innovation, possibility, creativity and above all else love for everything you do.
