We had the good fortune of connecting with Audrey DuBiel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Audrey, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Connection. We connect with every person that walks through our doors and give each a shopping experience that’s so much more than just shopping because we open our hearts as much as we open the doors of our shop. We also strive to stay current with trends and offer styling that can go from decade to decade to meet and encourage each customer’s fashion journey. We follow that same tone of encouragement on our social media platforms as well. Guiding our followers for the latest cuteness that has landed in our boutique in our clothing, gifts, accessories, and more! And more than anything else, even our products, we also use our socials as another way to connect. For those that are not local, we strive to connect to audrey *k customers everywhere through comedy, honesty, and always keeping it real! As a team, our greatest desire is to be here for our customers on a professional and personal level, giving joy and stying advice.
What should our readers know about your business?
To be frank, I’m a survivalist. Nothing I have gained in my experience as a business owner for over 25 years has come easy. But the life of an entrepreneur rarely exists without the grit, and the immense rewards of risks paid off. I have had the privilege and the struggle of dissolving over 10+ businesses, but when it came to my boutique, it was the little engine that could. I’m so proud of this little storefront that is my second home. A sacred place that I invested my spirit into and poured all of my knowledge and hopes into. I’ve made plenty of mistakes as a boutique owner, but I take each failure as a lesson to be learned, dissected, and improved upon. My tenacity as a business owner is rooted in my belief that learning, and improving, is continuous. It’s what makes the years feel both long and short. There is no timeline to the success of a small business but rather the heart to open the doors each brand new day and be gracious. The unique conundrum of small business is that your failures AND your successes define your gratitude. One cannot exist without the other. I am who I am because of the very special place I created, and continue to create, within the four walls of my boutique and beyond.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Of course Magnolia Park is my first choice because it’s mostly all small business. We would start with a cheese roll from Portos then head to Simply coffee for a hot beverage then travel to the Los Angeles Zoo to say hello to the gorillas and the cute meerkats. From there I would treat me friend to a fabulous burger at Morrison and a tall ice cold beer. Ending the day with a fun movie night at the Rooftop Cinema Club in Hollywood.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are very special people in my life that has made audrey k what it is today. First is my faith in God that has encouraged, inspired and guided me. His unconditional love gives me the strength I’ve needed throughout the years. Over 20 years ago, when I told my sweet Nana that I had a dream to start my own business, she gifted me $1,000 to help me begin this dream. I invested that money in the first products that began the audrey k brand. My family from the beginning has always showed me great support. There’s great joy in being a founder/owner of a small business, but it comes with sacrifices. Long hours away from home and times of exhaustion. I’m grateful for their everlasting love. Every successful business has a right-hand person who stands close beside you helping build the business. I’m so blessed to have such a person and more. Andrea and I share the same vision for our dedication to customer service and preserving it. We work hand-in-hand together on growing the business, encouraging, and motivating each other. Our lifetime friendship is a blessing bonus. She is my Ethel to Lucy!
