We had the good fortune of connecting with Austin Horey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Austin, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
With every new piece of jewelry, I try to do something that has not been done before. With new techniques and modes of manufacturing, I am able to make something that hasn’t been widely explored. Because it’s unfamiliar, you never know how people will react. You have to stand out, show people something they didn’t know that they wanted. Playing on the current trends, but with a new take.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Without giving away too much, @yalocaloffgod and I are working on manufacturing a ground-breaking watch that is only possible now, due to technological advancements in the manufacturing industry. We have a lot of celebrities that are very excited to get this watch in their hands. I’m very excited to see the reactions that people will have to this new-age piece.
It’s a very time-consuming endeavor, starting and managing a jewelry business from scratch. No, it’s not easy. However, when a piece is finally complete, it is an extremely rewarding feeling. The positive feedback and encouragement from fans make it well worth the time spent. Having the opportunity to work with some of my favorite artists makes it feel less like a job, and more like a dream come true. There’s nothing else I would rather be doing.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The cool thing about Buffalo is that a lot of amazing artists come through during their tour. From small local bars to huge outdoor venues like Darien Lake Amphitheater, we love to go out and vibe with the music. Good music with good people is the perfect combination.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for Teezo touchdown. He was the first artist to ever work with me before I had a following. The energy that Teezo gives off in both energy, creativity, and passion is contagious. Teezo always wants to do something that hasn’t been done. His encouragement to create outside the box has brought me down paths that I wouldn’t have explored if it weren’t for him. He has taught me a lot.
