We had the good fortune of connecting with B Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi B, what are you inspired by?
I am most inspired by the creative process for Nyne Lives. Both my graphic designer and supporters contribute to the inspiration of each collection.

Collaborating with my graphic designer Jae Doodles and seeing the artwork she creates constantly inspires me to continue expanding the brand and curating new collections and experiences. Having supporters that eagerly advocate the Nyne Lives brand encourages me to persistently put everything I have into my business.

Both Jae and my supporters continue to inspire me every step of the way on my journey to making Nyne Lives a long-standing brand.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The idea for Nyne Lives Clothing was birthed from my circumstances. Being from Compton I both experienced and witnessed a lot of loss, whether it was a loss of hope, family or loved ones. I wanted our stories to be represented in an empowering way. I wear my city on my back and each drop I put out is apart of a much bigger story than my own.

When I started Nyne Lives Clothing I wanted to give people as well as myself something that represented our stories and where we’re from in a fly and unique way.

The habit of relentlessly researching has helped me continuously re invent my brand and better it as I go. Habitually building relationships also puts a wealth of knowledge at my fingertips which is a recipe for continued success. I’ve taken risks which helped me to get out my comfort zone. It can be intimidating taking chances but to anybody out there grinding you have to just keep pushing and believe in yourself no matter the opposition.

I’m repeatedly told to keep going, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. However, I believe in taking time to step back to ensure that the next collection I release has intent and meaning behind it. I am always looking to provide my supporters with styles that are unique to the Nyne Lives brand.

The most important lesson I was taught in this business is to be self sufficient. This brand has helped to build some of the qualities I have today, my work ethic and drive continues to grow immensely and it’s because of self sufficiency. Having started this brand with a partner proved to be one of the most difficult stumbling blocks I’ve overcome. Once it was blatantly clear that my partner lacked consistency, work ethic, and the drive needed to bring Nyne Lives to where I’ve brought it today, it left me with no other choice but to see my vision through and take this where I knew it could go.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend visiting me some things I would enjoy showing them will be my my business operation and going downtown. My day to day moves pertaining to Nynelives.

One of my food spots will be Tempo Cantina they have the best margaritas and the food is always good.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
