We had the good fortune of connecting with Beatriz Valim and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Beatriz, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind any success is consistency. For the past few months it has been difficult for me to leave the house and create due to the circumstances. I take care of my two nieces and nephew full time so it was definitely difficult balancing a creative life and being their aunt but I made sure to find a way. I was inspired by a graphic design artist Jesiah Atkinson to start the 365 Daily Art Challenge. I knew once taking up this challenge it was going to help me stay consistent and give me that push I needed to keep me creating. My niece and nephew have helped me with the everyday challenge by helping me set up our at home photoshoots and helping me come up with fun concepts. Being consistent has helped me learn new skills and brush on the ones I already had.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from other artists is that I like to try new things all the time whether it may be photography or different art mediums and mash it up into one. I’m always thinking of doing projects where I can break boundaries of photography for example, I created a mini 3D fashion photography project where I mash my photography with 3D render objects. Which came out so cool! To get to where I am took a lot of time and the challenge overcoming my own self doubt. A lot of artists have this feeling and I think that just pushing yourself to create and focus about the end goal will only make you achieve greater things. I want the world to know that if you believe in yourself and believe in your art you will be successful in anything you want to do.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve lived in os Angeles for almost all my life and I still haven’t explored the city as much as I’d wanted to but I’d take them to places that are already super well known. I’d take them to eat In-N-Out because that’s really what we enjoy eating anyway. For a relaxing day I would take them to Santa Monica beach because we love hanging out on the sand and listening to music. Although it’s not in L.A. but a few hours away, I’d take them to the sand dunes. Although I’ve only been there for photoshoots, it’s so incredibly beautiful and fun to climb and get some work out in (also great for some photo opps)
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family deserves so much recognition for helping me get to where I am today. My nieces and nephew came to live with me this year and although it is a struggle from time to time, once we start creating something together they help me see creativity in a whole other light and make me feel like a kid again.
