We had the good fortune of connecting with Beau ‘Dacious and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Beau, why did you pursue a creative career?
I knew from a young age that the arts was where my passions lied. I was into so many things; pop music, theater, musicals, dance, makeup, modeling, rapping. I was born to entertain. It wasn’t until I discovered drag at the tender age of 16 that I knew I had finally found something that combines all of my interests into one. So, I ultimately decided to pursue it and have never looked back.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Beau ‘Dacious is a beauty beyond recognition. Truly. I take pride in how I look and present myself. That and my stature make it really easy to draw attention and admiration from fans and other performers. I’m a 6’5” trans drag queen, with legs for days; I naturally get looks everywhere I go.

It didn’t start off easy, though. I tried to put myself out there as best as I could, with what little knowledge I had of the industry. And I had help along the way from some other queens. But there were times I felt like I wasn’t meant for this profession, which didn’t reflect my already established feeling of being born to do this. I felt overlooked and ignored and like I was pouring my heart, time and money into something that wasn’t returning the favor.

But that was just the beginning, because as time went on, I learned patience and grace. I also learned when and where to put my energy, and what stuff was worth my time. It taught me a lot about discipline and just keeping your foot on the gas, no matter how low you may feel. Because if you really love something, and know deep down you were meant to do this, then nothing else should or could even matter.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I wish I knew more about places to go in my city, but I have a few. Being Polynesian, am I always going to recommend The Loft or Aunty Maile’s for some amazing Hawaiian food. I grew up on those places and have taken so many friends there; more than I can count. Also Aloha Stacks in Cerritos for some bomb breakfast food.
For bars I’d recommend anything on Broadway, the gay bars tend to have a vibe that I personally would rather be around than that of straight bars. The Hare, which also has great pizza, Men’s Room for good cheap drinks and great music on the weekends, and Mineshaft or Falcon to dance.
You could hang out at the Pike in Downtown Long Beach, there’s lots to do there. Or if you want more of a nature-like setting with a view, the parks along Ocean Blvd are great as well !

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe a lot of my success and my story to the people I’ve had the pleasure of calling my friends throughout my life. They may be friends of the past, whom I don’t speak to anymore, or current ones that have stuck with me; I’ve always had a tight knit group of people who have supported, uplifted, and actively helped me become the artist and performer I am today. And meeting my boyfriend through this profession has been the biggest blessing and help of all. I’d be nothing without my chosen family.
