We had the good fortune of connecting with Becky Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Becky, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
After living my entire life farming in West Texas I moved to California. Feeling somewhat out of place, I began visiting local farmers markets to be close to my kind of people, farmers. I loved the feeling of the markets and was so impressed with the quality and especially the variety of the gorgeous fruits and produce grown right here in sunny So Cal. As I began to experiment with all of these beautiful organic items and trying to find a way to express my love of art, styling and of course food I decided to try charcuterie. I opened up a booth at the Brentwood Farmers Market and began selling individual charcuterie grazing boxes and taking orders for larger grazing trays and grazing tables. I made a lot of great connections and met some great clients who still order from me regularly as well as sending me new clients. I love to see the way their faces light up when they see my work and their hesitation to destroy the art by eating it. But that’s why I create the art, to let people enjoy it with theirs eyes first and their taste buds next. It brings me such joy to make people feel special and be a part of the special parts of their lives, even for just a moment.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is about taking locally organic grown foods and turning them into edible pieces of art. It takes lots of hard work and constant planning, organizing and determination to run your own business. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to NEVER give up!! It’s much easier to just throw your hands up and walk away, but the rewards of completing your goals and making others happy is always worth it. The most important goal to me is to please my clients and give them a product they will be happy to share with the most important people in their lives.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would of course take my friends to my favorite farmers markets, Brentwood, Santa Monica, Calabasas all of them really. As a foodie myself I’d take them to so many great restaurants, like Elephante, Posto 896, Cabra, Playa Provisions, Mizlala just to name a few. I’d take them to see the Hollywood walk of fame of course, the Getty museum, Griffith Observatory and any and all of the beaches.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My daughter Jessica has been such a huge part of this adventure of mine. Without her endless love, support and encouragement I wouldn’t be able to do what I love.
