We had the good fortune of connecting with Ben Hirschhorn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ben, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is the people I surround myself with. When you surround yourself with creatives who are just as passionate as you, people who are eager to show up in the morning and willing to have their visions improved upon by the rest of the community, your success or journey will be that much more gratifying. It’s important to dissolve your ego and trust that these people are going to bring in ideas and techniques that are different than yours, which can only make your product that much more exciting.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I received my BFA in acting from The University of Southern California and previously studied acting at LaGuardia High School in New York City. I pride myself in creating art that promotes conversation by uplifting voices that have been silenced. My new short “Goggles” is a social commentary on the inhumane conditions in the detainment camps on the U.S.A – Mexico Border. We not only hope our film promotes change but we also are donating money to Kids In Need of Defense (KIND), a wonderful organization that sends representatives to children in these camps so they won’t have to fend for themselves.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many wonderful outdoor experiences here in LA that I love to visit. Hiking trails such as Runyon Canyon and Tuna Canyon Park are some of the first places I’d go to. I’d definitely need to stop at a nearby taco spot (there are so many good ones to choose from) and later get some sushi (I love Yamashiro). A place I can’t wait to go back to is The Huntington Library over in Pasadena; I could spend a whole day there. The Grove and Farmers Market are always a nice visit as well, although it’s a little touristy. And to finish it off, I’d go grab a drink at Laurel Hardware.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shoutout my friends and family who have supported my journey and projects in such charitable ways. In particular Miguel Angel Garcia and Matthew Mitchell, my roommates, who both are key features in our new upcoming short “Goggles”. And most importantly my mum, dad, brother and sister who never cease to amaze me with their constant love.
